Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428
I’ve dueled with paintball guns. Didn’t look much different. Full face masks with goggles and loose fitting jackets (and cups).

Rip Snorter
The paintball protective gear would probably work with wax and you could use your own guns. There are special cartridge cases that take a shotgun primer. Handloading requires only components and hands. I'd fool around with distances and damage before I cared to take a hit. Paintballs at close range are unpleasant. Edit: I gave a rancher friend a box of wax 45 Colt that he occasionally uses to discourage rambunctious Bulls. They are not insignificant. Oak Ridge Regulator
Used to play paintball when I was young and could run and duck fast, lots of fun, teaches you a lot about cover and movement, paintballs can hurt like hell and yup you REALLY want a cup, wax is harder than gelatin and I don’t think I would mess with the wax
Still hand Bill
If I remember correctly paintball energy is limited to 10 ftlb. For a standard 68 cal marker that’s 300 fps. Should be easy to get wax under that threshold as they are significantly less mass.
