Charlie MacNeil, SASS #48580
How much are you using? I've been loading 3.9 grains of Trail Boss, but I have a lot more Clays that I do Trail Boss. I'd like to find a Clays load that matches the Trail Boss load for recoil if possible...
Tyrel Cody
With 3.5 gr of Clay's the recoil seems to be just a tad more than Trail Boss. But that's in a pair of 4 3/4" Rodeos; so if your guns are any heavier you probably won't notice. I like it between 3.5-4 gr of Clays myself. I'll try that and see how it feels. Thanks! Anybody else want to chime in?
Widder, SASS #59054
Charlie, I'll chime in tomorrow (or later today). It about 0130 hrs and I'm too tired to pull my data and look it over. I got data for the C45S 160 grains with Clean Shot, Clays and Red Dot. I also got some personal protection type hot loads using the Speer 185 Gold Dot with Power Pistol powder. Nice load, equivalent to the .45 Super. ..........Widder
Hooligan Howes
I just ran across some data. 3.8 grains of Clay's for a 200 grain bullet. So 3.5 for a 160 seems about right.

Eyesa Horg
I've been using 4.2 grn. of Clays in my NMV 4 5/8" barrels and get just a tiny bit of unburnt powder. No noticeable recoil.
Charlie MacNeil, SASS #48580
Thanks for the info, folks. I'll give Clays a try and see how it feels...
Widder, SASS #59054
160 grain bullet Velocity results from 3.5" Vaqueros. These are 10 shot averages. CLAYS 4.1 Avg vel: 615 CLEAN SHOT 4.6 Avg vel: 640 RED DOT 4.0 Avg vel: 632 I have Choreographed and tested in both rifle and pistols the above load data. In my opinion, All of them give excellent results for Cowboy shooting. CLEAN SHOT does seem to meter better and more consistent and is my favorite. If ya wanna use the C45S for some personal defense, critter and home protection, I got a nice load using the Speer 185 gr. Gold Dot HP, equalling the performance levels of the .45 Super round. ..........Widder
