Brake cylinder hone?

For what purpose?   If you are removing scrapes, rough spots and corrosion pits, you will probably be much more satisfied with the flex-hones that gunsmiths use.  See Brownells' 12 gauge barrel hones and honing oil.  If you get the "multi-ball" hone, use the honing oil made for them, or risk having the abrasive balls disintegrate with standard oils. 

 

I've used these on some old shotguns to restore barrel to a mostly pit free condition, realizing that no hone will take out deep pits without weakening the barrel (perhaps with serious failure possibilities when fired).  They are slow going and make it easy to get a good job done, even with a hand held drill motor.

 

Brake cylinder hones are easy to tilt at an angle (thus digging out-of-round holes), and come with short drive rods that are not going to get into deep holes like barrel bores.  They can work if used carefully in chambers.  They are too short for barrel honing.

Shameless - some more details please ... cylinders only, barrels with gouges, etc.  If you have barrel gouges, recommend  gunsmith with a set of flex-hones (grind & polish) PS - A set is not cheap

Honing is not polishing a chamber.

As a machinist in a former life, it's refreshing to see someone that knows the difference between a drill and a drill motor.

The FASTEST and most EFFECTIVE means for ruining a barrel is a Break Cylinder Hone.  Brownells sells specialized tools for working on shotgun barrels.  The tool will depend of what End Result you desire.  If your problem to be solved is getting the shotgun hulls OUT of your shotgun, you probably don't need a Hone of any kind.  You need to change your ammunition to something your shotgun likes.
