Straight Arrow Hombre
I’m interested to know the bore diameter of current production Winchester 1873s chambered in 44-40. Has anyone slugged their bore?
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Made By Miroku? Should be 0.429" If you use a soft enough slug (9 BNH), should not be a problem pushing it down most bores. Good luck, GJ

Boulder Canyon Bob# 32052L
I slugged my Miroku 73 after having disappointing accuracy using my old original 73 loads in it. It slugged at .429, so I use .430 bullets and an expander made for the 44. Works great now.

Driftwood Johnson, SASS #38283
Howdy For what it's worth, the current crop of Uberti 44-40 rifles seem to have .429 diameter rifling grooves too. At least that's what my 44-40 Henry slugged out to. Yeah, it is ten years old now, but I'm pretty sure that is how they are making them now. As opposed to my Uberti 1873 from the 1980s that slugs at .427. In think I have five 44-40 rifles at this point, maybe six including an old Marlin. Interestingly enough, while a couple of antiques slug out to .427, at least one slugged at .429. Go figure.
