Rex M Rugers #6621
Have been shooting 44 Special almost exclusively for last 12 years. Occasionally in the previous 40 , but more 44 Mag in those years. Feel free to PM for any question that pops into your head. I may have been there. I do not know Lumpy personally , but do know he is also very well versed in things 44. A majority of my loading in the last 8-9 years has been BP , with some subs. Welcome to my favorite cartridge. And lucky you , with a set of the Ruger Vaqueros. Rex
Charlie Harley, #14153
Welcome to one of the best but underused cartridges in the world! I don't shoot a 73 so can't be much help, but can tell you that my favorite bullet is the 200gr Mav Dutchman and a 240gr Keith. Good ode luck on your search. PM if I can help. Three Foot Johnson
I like a heavier bullet in my 2 1866 .44 special rifles, and it seems to help with blowback, but I prefer the 165 in my .44 special Vaqueros.
Colorado Coffinmaker
Make 3 dummy rounds with your bullet of choice. Load them in the rifle. Cycle the rifle. If they run, your Gold. If they don't run, back to the drawing board
