Cat Brules
I've acquired what is supposedly an unfired, IAC (Interstate Arms Company) Model 99W - 12 gauge, 3" chambers, Coach Shotgun The shotgun has one hammer that will not cock (stay locked back). It also (I think) is pretty heavy. But, the price was right. This shotgun is not what I would characterize as a high end shotgun. BUT, how good or bad is it, really? Does anyone shoot these in competition? What can you tell me, good and bad, about them? What work is commonly performed on them to make them reliable? Just trying to determine what it would take, and would it be worth the effort, to try to improve this shotgun. I will appreciate your input and advice. Rooster Ron Wayne
Pretty much junk . But you can improve it with a lot of work to make it usable. Not going to be a fast or light handling gun , Just usable. It all depends on how fast or slow you are . It may not slow you down ? Or it may turn you in to a train wreck . Just saying . Noz
That was my first purchase. Didn't take long for me to discover how really bad it was. I owned it for a couple of months before I found a gunshop that gave me about a third of what I had in it. I felt lucky.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Ditto. Bought a new one 12 years ago on recommendation of a well known gunsmith. Piece of junk, parts have to be made, not well finished at all, wide spread hammers making it hard to cock fast. Not worth messing with, in my opinion. So much easier to get a TTN/Cimarron Colt 1878 clone and improve the very few things that need done to that gun. Good luck, GJ
