Ace Hanlon
I was wondering if there is any history written down which would describe modifications made to the pistol by the owners. For example, did anyone shorten the stroke of the original hammer action.
Elk Creek LeMieux
It's been years since I read it, and I can't remember the name of the book. But there were a lot of pictures of modified colts in it. A couple had higher hammers, wired back triggers, no trigger guards, etc.
Driftwood Johnson, SASS #38283
Howdy All kinds of modifications have been done to the SAA over time. But I suspect shortened hammer strokes is a pretty modern modification. Not too many folks were as concerned with shooting a SAA really fast as we are today. Other than shooting it really fast, there is no good reason to shorten the hammer stroke.
Warden Callaway
I hear a little short man named Ed McGivern was pretty fast with a SAA.
Rye Miles #13621
Bat Masterson ordered a Colt and asked them to make it easy on the hammer and light on the trigger with a thick front sight. I've read that before but can't remember where. Rye
Yusta B.
I hear a little short man named Ed McGivern was pretty fast with a SAA. I believe he did quite a bit of exhibition shooting with DA Smiths too.
Boggus Deal #64218
I know Colts were being short stroked about the turn of the 19th century. I have a book describing it written just after that time.
Forty Rod SASS 3935
Ed McGivern was fast with anything that he shot... and he was accurate beyond belief, too. Not target accurate, but gun fighting accurate.
