Nimble Fingers SASS# 25439 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 What scenes did Harry Carey Jr get cut out of? I see his name on the opening credits and one story I have heard that he upset Howard Hawkes so bad that his scene(s) ended up on the cutting room floor. I can't figure out what part he played in the movie as it appears none the worse for his absence. Thanks.
The Snellville Kid #5408 Regulator Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I missed Rio Bravo this afternoon, but, Monte Walsh was on right after, one of my favorite westerns.
Warden Callaway Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I missed Rio Bravo this afternoon, but, Monte Walsh was on right after, one of my favorite westerns. The one with Lee Marvin or the one with Tom Selleck? One rare time I like both versions.
Handlebar Bob #4650 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Harry Carey Jr played a townsman. He had a drinking problem at the time and called Hawks "Howard" instead of Mr. Hawks like the other actors did. Hawks honored Carey's contract, payed him and gave him billing, but cut his scenes.
J-BAR #18287 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 The only thing I don't like about Rio Bravo is the way .Duke sweeps everyone repeatedly with his rifle. Man, if I got that close to Angie Dickenson I would be more careful!!
Bad Jeemes Kelly Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Nobody sits a horse like Monte Walsh ! Just watched that last week. Hard to beat any of the Tom Selleck or Sam Elliott westerns.
Tex Jones, SASS 2263 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Going around with a loaded and cocked rifle, even in a movie, is stupid. I saw that film when it first came out and thought it was stupid then. A good film nonetheless.
Deuce Stevens SASS#55996 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 There has always been a rumor that Carey played the man who Dean Martin (Dude) chased into the bar after the killing of Ward Bond (Wheeler) and ended up shooting out of the rafters in the bar. It's one of my favorites scenes of all westerns.
The Snellville Kid #5408 Regulator Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 It was the origional with Lee Marvin, I also like both the Marvin and Selleck versions and own both. "Did I ever tell you about Big Joe Abernathy"
