Mosey West
Many schools closed in the northern 1/2 of Iowa today. When I was a kid I walked 10 miles to country school through drifts that were taller than I was. Always below zero too. Now they can't ride a heated bus through 4 or 5". I think these kids today are gettin' soft. Mosey West

Four-Eyed Buck,SASS #14795
I can remember walking through some pretty crappy weather, too. But only had to walk about 6 blocks or so to get to grade school.....Buck

Mosey West Lets see, walking at 3 mph in warm weather now down to 2 miles per hour in deep snow for 10 miles to school, you would have had to leave home 5 hours before school started. School starts at 8:00 so you were up and gone at 3AM. Yeah, that's it...leave at 3 AM. Big Jake
Marshal Rusty Bore SASS#22739
For me it was a mile to school both ways uphill! Since I was the tallest I had to carry my three brothers and oldest sister and I had to stop and get groceries on the way home!

Easy Emily SASS #73673
Back in the day in Northern Iowa the rural buses would be canceled but kids in town still had to go to school. I lived on a farm and would get excited about a day, except my dad seemed to always get us to school somehow. We often would then spend the night with my grandma who lived in town. It was always embarrassing being at school and having all the town kids remind me I wasn't suppose to be there.

Mosey West
I realize that my memory isn't what it used to be. Maybe it wasn't quite 10 miles and maybe the snow wasn't quite that deep. Any-way Badger, I did have boots and the ground was fairly level. Just thought I'd mention this so nobody would accuse me of telling a whopper.
