Buffalo Creek Law Dog Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 My wife and I took a 10 day trip to the US. Visited 6 States. Followed the last leg of the Oregon Trail for 200 miles and 300 miles kind of in the middle of the route. It was neat being able to stand on the original trail ruts....so many of them still exist. Had a good time, met lots of friendly people. The service industry people were exceptionally friendly. The only weird thing was in Oregon. No self serve gas pumps. There is a place to put your card in however, the customer is not allowed to insert it or pump the gas. An attendant has to do it or he/she can receive a $500. fine. The price of gas varied from a low of 3.599 in Montana to a high of 4.159 in Nevada. OR, ID, WA were around the 3.699 to 3.799 range with northern CA at 4.109. The best time to holiday is Sept as there is very little traffic and no kids. Next year we are going to drive down to KS and OK. and then play it by ear from there.

If'n you make it all the way down to Valliant, OK, (way down in the far SE corner)give me a holler.

Grizzly Dave Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Yep Grizz that's a fact for Oregon, you can't pump your own gas, remember when we were kids nobody pumped their own gas then ether Wow, I had no idea. Guess I live in my own little world nestled in the Rocky Mountains. I think I'll stay here, pump my own gas, and not have to wait when I buy a gun.

Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 It's a weird thing in Oregon... and they have a bucketful of "howcums" to support it: Oregon Gas Pumping Used to be illegal in San Francisco, too. Took years to have self-pumping legalized... at one of the final board of supervisor's meetings on the subject one of the women on the board (who was on record as opposed) demanded that instructions should be posted in multiple languages, including Spanish, Tagalog, Cantonese, Hindi... one of the men on the board looked at 'er and said "Well, ya might as well add Pig Latin and Choctaw, too!" It passed.
