Grizzly Dave
You know me, always with wild thoughts... Just wondering if anyone uses their brass tumbler and media to clean gun parts or things other than brass. Grizz
I. M. Crossdraw, SASS# 8321
You know me, always with wild thoughts... Just wondering if anyone uses their brass tumbler and media to clean gun parts or things other than brass. Grizz Nope. But I imagine you can if they are stainless steel, as bluing will probably be polished off some. If you do, let us know how it turns out.

Hugh Damwright
I had a box with a nice pile of roll pins of various sizes that had collected rust from sitting in the basement over the years. The tumbler did a great job of cleaning them up. I didn't reuse that media for brass, in fear of getting particles of rust in my reloader and scratching the dies, but as long as you keep it separate, why the heck not ? Wolf Parker
I wouldn't without testing on a disposable part first. You may be unhappy with what it does to the finish. I would also be concerned with the larger/heavier items hitting each other in the tumbler. It's one thing with relatively light brass case that floats in the media, it's very different for a pistol frame for example. If you want to do vibratory cleaning I'd look into one of the ultrasonic cleaners. They're making them smaller and cheaper these days.
Grizzly Dave
I have no plans to do it, but after reading about how to smooth up a side by side, and the parts to debur and polish, I just wondered if anyone had every tried cleaning/polishing parts in a tumbler. Celilo
I have an old Japaneese gambling machine called a Pachinko. Uses small steel balls with casino markings(in Japaneese)much like casino chips. When they get rusty or a little dirty they jam up the internal works. I ran them through my polisher and they cleaned up very nice. You can use your polisher for a lot of other uses. Bull Skinner
I've used it to clean the brass carriers in my 73's. Works good, also deburs them.
Oliver Loving
When I first went to Frontiersman cat. I purchased a small ultra-sound cleaner for the two cyclinders. Now I use 14 different SS cyclinders which was taking a while to pass through the ultra-sound. Last year after buying a Tumblers-Tumbler I took my old brass cleaner and made a soap bath out of it for the cyclinders. About 10 will go in so I just throw in a good cleaner and water until they are all covered then turn it on. I always place the cyclinder so that the nipple is up. I'll leave'em in bout 1 hour then wipe down and blow them out with dry compressed air and I'm done. Works great.
Ethan Cord
They will do a great job of cleaning up small rusty tools, bolts, etc. I don't know about de-burring, it seems if the media is aggressive enough to remove burrs it will take metal from areas you may not want to lose metal. I have used ceramic and plastic media for cleaning metal parts in my tumbler as well.
