Adirondack Jack, SASS #53440
I expect it ain't no different than any Colt lockwork, a flat spring in the bottom, visible if ya take grip frame off, is broke.
Doc Fill 'Em 67797
Colt 1877 Read this Yes, it can be fixed, if you can find someone to work on it and find parts. They are not worth as much as a Single Action Army. Since it was free, have it appraised as is. You might be better off to just keep it as a relic. Nate Kiowa Jones #6765
Guess i should find some grip panels too. Hi Rick, Yes, it can be repaired but it's not like an SAA. Those were Colt's first Double Actions and they can be a bear to keep them running. Just too many delicate parts. You may want to get it working. For years they didn't have much collector value usually in the $200 range but I'm seeing more and more of them goinf for $7-$800 and up. There are some folks that specialize in repairing them. Big Jake1001
GCR; before you buy grip panels, do you want those repaired? There's a guy here in Orange Co.Calif. who does this work. His name is Don Furr and he lives in Costa Mesa and I've had him repair and fix 5-6 pair of grips on Colt SAA's, S&W #3 and pocket pistols. He has original replacements, can fix yours, or makes replacements in various states of wear to match the wear on the gun. You can't tell the difference once there fixed. I'll try to find his Ph.# and send you a PM. Big Jake

Forty Rod SASS 3935
Dixie Gun Works used to have grips, screws, and spring kits for them. I don't have a current catalog, but I got everything I needed for a .41 Lightning, but sold it and the parts before I did any work on it. Like they said above, it can be a bear to work on if you don't know how.

GunClick Rick
The hand spring is deffinatley gone, the eject spring is just a tad weak still works pushin out ,goes all the way up but just doesn't catch the latch groove tightly cylinder goes in and out real well and a couple screw head have been tweaked.I'd like to get into shooting operation but i wouldn't be shootin it and leave it rough.Feels small in the hand for a
Dog Ears Wilson, SASS #77948
Hard to tell if the finish is original or not, but if it is that pistol would have more value than most (if fixed up, of course). That's a real nice gift. Edit: Here's one with similar remaining finish on Gunbroker. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem....?Item=209451381
