Colt Monitor: The First Official FBI Fighting Rifle
Dantankerous replied to Sedalia Dave's topic in SASS Wire Saloon
Eligible for C&R? π -
Years and years ago I had the opportunity to shoot one of these in 357 magnum on a one hundred yard rifle range at bowling pins. It was easy to make hits at that distance. That said, I do not remember what ammunition we were using and I only shot maybe two mags. Quite fun. I have read way too many articles and watched too many videos bemoaning the "reliability" of these Desert Eagles in all calibers to ever care to personally shell out the $ for one. As previously mentioned... way too many other excellent choices in firearms today.

I use Matt's for non CAS bullets and have always been pleased with his service and products.

What was your first album...
Dantankerous replied to Father Kit Cool Gun Garth's topic in SASS Wire Saloon
I have several of his albums. Always fun to listen to. Watching old concert videos of his online, as a trumpet player, are pretty much insane. -
What was your first album...
Dantankerous replied to Father Kit Cool Gun Garth's topic in SASS Wire Saloon
1st 45 was Rhinestone Cowboy by Glenn Campbell. 1st album was a truck driving song compilation or John Denver, not sure which. 1st album I memorized all the songs on was Frank Sinatra and Count Basie, Fly me to the Moon I think. Yup, an eclectic mix. -

Interesting. Very surprised that was allowed in court. A victim impact statement from the deceased? If this was allowed before a conviction or sentencing. I can't believe defense attorneys weren't screaming, "Objection! Speculation!!!!!"

Fluted or unfluted cylinder? This model came with both. -
A great short read. And perfectly fitting for a TZ episode. Ambrose Bierce was an interesting fella who wrote quite a few good reads. Check out The Devil's Dictionary for a glimpse into his sense of humor and wit. He met his end somewhere in Mexico, most likely. Details of his death unknown. Poncho Villa might have been involved.

4 5/8 (4 3/4) or 5 1/2 barrel, what's your preference and why?
Dantankerous replied to Currahee's topic in SASS Wire
3" revolver for carry 4 5/8 or 5 1/2 for cowboy (my difference is stainless for BP, blued for smokeless) 6+ inch for range, target and hunting Semi-autos? 4-5 inch Nothing quite like a 1911 Government. π -
Very well worth watching.

Just about 4 miles south of Chapman, Kansas. A great range run by exceptional cowboys. Always a fantastic shoot there. Monthly or annual.
-
Same here in Kansas.

A few folks I know who use these really like them. Doesn't fit my needs, but i'm glad it does for others... eases loading and might just keep some coming back shooting. My thumbs work just fine but I know arthritis has bitten many folks.

Remembering John Taffin
Dantankerous replied to Billy Boots, # 20282 LTG-Regulator's topic in SASS Wire
In our gunworld, this man has contributed endlessly from his heart to all of our passion. His magazine articles, his books, the time and research and devotion to what he loved was second to none. We as handgunners and sixgunners are better off today from his contributions and shared knowledge, history and enthusiasm in the gunworld we share with him. He was truly one of the greats sharing the stage with Elmer Keith, Skeeter Skelton, Mike Venturino, Phil Spangenberger, John Linebaugh and the like. Excellent company to be sure. John Taffin will be missed but his work and influence will carry forth. Rest in Peace, good Sir. -
No kidding. π
