  1. I’m wondering at what stage of the disease they implant it. At first sign, or does it have to develop more? Is it suitable for juvenile arthritis? Side effects - especially long term use? Many questions….
  2. Looks like a great way to get rid of your wife or girlfriend! 😁
  3. True. The thing that appears different to me as compared to WW2 is the civilian population has been largely disconnected from all the wars since then. Back then, pretty much everyone was involved in the war effort through work or some other endeavor. The number of people in uniform was staggering. They had family members serving across the globe. Pretty much everyone had a stake in it or was affected by it. Just one example is rationing - something we’ve not seen since. Today, most people’s lives go on as in peacetime without any personal stake outside their own little bubble. Wars are just something they hear about on the news and pontificate about on social media. Wish it wasn’t that way. Note: Ken Burns did a multi part documentary about 15 years ago called, “The War”. In it, he combines the stories of those who served in it and the lives of those on the home front. It’s excellent.
  4. Basically a heavier version of the flechette developed in WWI https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flechette
  5. I don’t think the OP is there quite yet, hence his query. Perhaps you could lighten up a bit.
  6. Sometimes one’s knuckles are so swollen or sensitive from arthritis that even a mild rap is painful.
  7. These knuckle bandaids work for me. The gauze provides enough padding without being bulky. Lots of companies make them. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Curad-Fabric-Adhesive-Knuckle-Bandages-Finger-Bandages-for-Knuckles-Pack-of-100-Natural/17056172907?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=101016960&selectedOfferId=BDE10F47C62C31E28F0B0F04D10D3424&conditionGroupCode=1&adid=2222222222817056172907_101016960_190408914708_21851291898&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=761844464579&wl4=pla-2427975028726&wl5=1020414&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=159130647&wl11=online&wl12=17056172907_101016960&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21851291898&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIrSDTophMoDKvq6t3sSKQ0Pf&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrtPB1dbejgMVvVz_AR22fjfFEAQYFCABEgImxvD_BwE
  8. That was Patton’s doing.
  9. She may have, but it was Jimmy Dolittle who did the heavy lifting. He traveled from base to base to demonstrate the plane was easy to fly once its flight characteristics were taken into account. Up to that time AAF didn’t teach pilots how to handle the newer planes.
  10. That says it all. When I moved to the Kansas City area from NYC, my NY friends were aghast. They truly thought the streets were unpaved and tumbleweeds and dust blew everywhere. Saul Steinberg’s illustration for the New Yorker is quite literal. (See below) My son lived in Prescott and Flagstaff from ‘08-23. I love that part of Arizona.
  11. In my house there were more than two ways, but these were the top two.
  12. My son tells a story of riding in his crew’s “hotshot buggy” when he was a firefighter. They were traveling on a fire road doing around 20-25 mph and saw a big bear loping alongside them at the same speed. He said the bear didn’t appear to breathing hard.
  13. Wow, we’ve lost another. I still have his LP. RIP
  14. Godfather II was excellent. Part 3 could have been good, but it was dragged down by the awful acting and role played by director Coppola’s daughter, Sophia.
  15. Yup. Although I don’t recall seeing an am/fm push button radio - only am. All the early upgrades from am to dual band radios that I remember just had the tuning knob on the right. On the radio shown, how did you switch between bands? Push or pull on the knob? The ones I remember had a separate switch for that.
  16. I used to watch all of the main talk shows - Johnny Carson, Dick Cavett, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas & Jay Leno. What they had in common was the that the guest they were talking to was the most important person on the set. Carson was a master at asking leading questions or playing the straight man for comedians. They made it look effortless so you felt you were sitting in on a relaxed, private conversation. It was entertaining. Now the host is as, or more important than the guest where the two of them collude and lecture the audience with their elitism. Even Jimmie Fallon who isn’t overtly political often turns the spotlight on himself at the expense of the guest. It’s self-indulgent and boring, the opposite of entertaining.
  17. One needs to be of a certain age - that is, Cheech and Chong: Cheech: “Last night I played some Black Sabbath backwards.” Chong: “What happened?” Cheech: “I saw God…”
  18. Looks like rocket fuel to me…
  19. Back when he was on The Daily Show I thought he was amusing. Then I saw him as the “entertainment” at a National Press Club lunch with President G W Bush sitting right next to him. What was supposed to be a humorous ribbing was one of the most disrespectful and insulting performances directed toward a US president I’ve ever seen. Bush was clearly annoyed, and rightfully so. There’s nothing Colbert has done since to make me think he’s anything but smug and self absorbed.
  20. This story doesn’t pass the sniff test. There’s got to be some critical information missing. Smells like a lawsuit scam gone bad for the guy. How else did he get that far unless it was planned?
  21. Medicare doesn’t cover hearing aids. Some supplemental plans might, but mine doesn’t.
  22. Tried to send you a PM, but it said you can’t receive messages. Are you in a timeout? 😊
