Sheila is a girl's name, and as such is capitalized.

 

John is a guy's name, and as such is capitalized.

 

When referring to a prostitute's customer as a john, since it's not a name but is simply a noun, it is not capitalized.

 

When speaking of your random everyday girl, do you capitalize sheila?

No capitalisations (I fixed the Z for you Alpo) for 'sheila' unless its a first name. 

 

i.e "We should go and introduce ourselves to that good lookin' bunch of sheila's over there"

Good to know, didn't want to ever refer to Jenarado as sheila and then find out it was bad! Like calling somebody a karen here.

That is a bit of the problem here. Did not realize it until this thread.

 

In this land where we can have our feet firmly on the ground without Velcro, we need to call those people karens, not Karens.

Your's did. which helped  point it out to me. Along with the discussion of shielas in general vs those actually named Sheila.

 

The memes and references I see as to karens are generally capitalized and now I know the solution. A general uncapitalized noun, not a proper noun. Though there must have been an original prototypical karen who was actually named Karen.

But a shiela is just a girl, right? No negative connotation?

 

whereas, Karen, Becky, Sharon, Tracy, and for males Chad, and Kevin all have some negative other meaning.
