WTB Dart gun for working cattle

Recommended Posts

It's a long shot, but anyone have a dart gun for working cattle they don't need/use any longer?  I like the looks of the Cap-Chur in the H&R, but open to any.  Please PM me if you have one available.  Thanks.

The Cap-Chur rifle says, "Rifle is effective from approximately 525 yards"...

... using .22 blank power loads...?

A few years ago, I had neighbor's crazed bull running around the place with a brain tumor it turned out, that would have killed someone who got too close. He came in with a half dozen riders and a dart rifle and they finally put him down, but the range was point blank, not several hundred yards.

That has got to be a typo...

Yep a typo.  I should read 5 - 25 yards.

CAP-CHUR STAINLESS NITRIDE CARTRIDGE-FIRED RIFLE

Quote

The Cap-Chur Stainless Nitride Cartridge Fired Rifle uses Cap-Chur approved .22 blank power loads to propel Cap-Chur reusable and disposable syringes. Allowing you to treat or immobilize animals safely in the field or feedlot. Power loads maintain consistent propellant force from one use to the next. Rifle is effective from approximately 5-25 yards, depending on power load strength and size and type of syringe used. Using the patented Cap-Chur syringe, you can propel 1 to 20 cc’s of vaccine or medication to an animal, causing the syringe to inject its contents on contact. After injecting, the syringe stays in place for a short time before falling out. Cartridge Fired Rifle has a Stainless Nitride barrel which is the most durable finish available. Projector comes with practice darts.

Requires Cap-Chur approved .22 Power Loads (item# 2427, 2425, 2423, sold separately).

What exactly are you looking for?  A pump style, CO2, are blank fired?

Does that mean you have one or all?  1st choice, blank fired, pump probably second and CO2 last.  It won't get a lot of use and wasting a CO2 cartridge every time for one or 2 shots seems silly, that said, if I ran across a CO2 one that was inexpensive, I could absorb some cartridge cost.

Are you looking to dart / tranq them?  I made up wax bullet 45 Colt loads for a rancher friend.  He uses them on rare occasions to discourage aggressive stock.

I have plenty of "discouragement" options.  I need to be able to administer med's and/or tranq them.

My herd is pretty docile, so long range isn't really required, but they will range and or be pastured a significant distance from the working pen/chute/head catch, so if I get one that needs something, popping them with a dart in location will ease stress on them and work on my part.

Still looking.  Thanks.

Out here there are chutes they are sent through and can be held for vax or they get it at branding.  I've been here quite a few years and never seen cattle darted.  Good luck with your quest.  A thought would be to contact your State Wildlife agency and see where they get theirs, another would be a local large animal vet.

The Vet clinic I work for sells alot of the PneuDart brand. Work great if your herd is calm and you can drive right up to them with a truck or SxS  and your not habing to make long range shots.   Load 3cc - 10cc darts in them

The 178BS model... It is a pump.

https://shop.pneudart.com/model-178bs-cattle-synthetic-stock/

We have found that to work the best and gives the least amount of problems.   The  blank shooting models they would require us to have an FFL to send it to which is crazy.

The pump models are easy to rebuild if the seals go bad... I want to say a rebuild kit is like $15.

Sometimes we have an old loaner model at work that they are willing to sell occasionally to rotate stock. I can ask them if you would like?

If you'd ask them about an older one they're rotating out, that'd be great.  Shawnee may have a blank powered one that's fits my bill, but if the cost isn't too great, I wouldn't mind more than one option.  I may also find one works better for me than another in actual use.

My herd is used to me walking around them and driving near them with the SxS, so "long shots" aren't really required.

Thank you everyone!
