Anyone use 777 in Colt cap guns?

Recommended Posts

Asking for a friend. He's got an original Colt 1860 he wants to shoot.

I shot one cylinder full of BlackMZ in my Pietta 44 one time and felt it to powerful and shot no more.

I use 20 grains of 777 in my brass framed 44 Pietta's.

BP would be my first choice for an original.

I haven't, wouldn't in an original, and would so advise anyone else.  Good plan on letting him have some real BP.

A CAVEAT:  I don't shoot or load with 777.  However, the Manufacturer claims 777 is 10 - 20% MORE potent than BP.  Based on that, I certainly WOULD NOT recommend 777 in an original 1860.  Questionable whether it's an Iron cylinder or early steel.  Either way, it's a risk for instantaneous disassembly.

Black MZ is not to powerful for a modern cylinder Cap Gun when loaded to manufacturer's recommendation.  DO NOT compress Black MZ, nor Shooters World nor APP.

APP is available right here on the wire threw (Scarlett )  ,

and it's a excellent product.

It's what I shoot in my Original 1860 Army.

And All 17 of my other Cap Guns .

Not over powered .

Cleans up Easy .

Can use any Bullet and or Lube  !

I would 100% recommend APP over 777
