Red Eye Jim
So a pop up came in into my news feed earlier today and I me, being well, me I had to take a look. (Here's the list if you're curious: The best Western movie ever—and see the rest of the top 25, according to critics (msn.com)) So my reason for wanting to start a thread is this question. When someone compiles their top 25 list does El Dorado and Rio Bravo actually deserve to be separate entries on that list? I also think there are some movies that I personally don't really call Westerns probably because they are taking place (at least partially) outside of the timeframe SASS itself qualifies. Don't get me wrong, Giant is a good James Dean film, but I have a hard time considering that as a true western.
Forty Rod SASS 3935
1. this site is nearly unwatchable 2. I disagree with most of the few I could get to open (Sierra Madre wasn't great and I found it boring) but Hannie Caulder is a a keeper.

Yes, only because Walter Brennan is in one and not the other. 21 minutes ago, Red Eye Jim said: I also think there are some movies that I personally don't really call Westerns probably because they are taking place (at least partially) outside of the timeframe SASS itself qualifies. There are a good number of movies on that list that I wouldn't consider "westerns" as I understand them.
Lone Spur Jake SASS #7728
Don't waste your time looking at this list. It's BS. Maybe 3 or 4 might possibly be on a 25 best Western list.
Blackwater 53393
Nearly half of the movies listed are NOT westerns!! Many that are what might marginally be considered westerns have no business being in a top 25 list!!
Alpo
I like 10 out of the 25. I don't know if I would say any of the 10 I like were the Best Westerns of all time, but I like 10 out of the 25. Six of them I've never heard of. And this leaves nine that I have at least heard of - some of them I've watched but didn't particularly like. I believe we can call this list nonsense. 1
