Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
We took two days to pull our TT to the Ben Avery Clay Center Campground. Travel weather was good - no dust storms. I am camped near a SASS member from Montana. We hope to shoot wobble trap and 5-stand in our spare time. First shopping trip was to Bruno’s. The store was well- stocked. Note the row of 8-lb powder jugs along the floor. There was no Trail Boss or Clays (no surprise) and very limited amounts of Alliant products. There were lots of Remington large pistol primers and Federal small pistol primers. Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
The next shopping trip was for Russian food at Yasha’s. After the Soviet breakup many ethnic Russians from the desert Soviet republics settled in Phoenix. Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
Cowtown celebrated its 40th annual match with Barb Wire (pictured) leading her club. The match was simple and enjoyable with very little wind. I struggled to get good stage times shooting BP but managed to place 2nd in FC. Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
I purchased Tell Sackett’s inventory of US-made shotgun primers. The W209s are for a shooting buddy back home.

I did not buy any so I don’t have this information. If EOT vendors sell out Bruno’s is an option to stock up. Go West
I just checked online and SPP a minimum of $75 or so for 1K. They are having a sale on Cheddite primers for $88, but for 1500, not 1000. Reclaimed shot for $52 or so. LPP are available, but more expensive. I just ordered SPP, Cheddites and powder, but I thought I might check them out. Haven't heard of Bruno's before.
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
Monday the clay ranges were closed so more shopping. First was a 38 mile drive to Scheels in Chandler, a two floor sporting goods Mecca with the first floor stocked with pricey sneakers and sportswear. They had a large indoor salt water aquarium and a Ferris wheel. Edited February 27 by Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
The was a hunting section on the second floor oriented to archers. This decoy might keep cats out of my vegetable garden.
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
I bought some wads and powder from the reloading area. LPPs were priced OK but not small pistol primers.

Hells Comin
For some reason they couldn't keep them in stock. We where buying 10 thousand every time we went there. I think they finally caught on.

Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
I shot the 5-stand course this morning by myself. It was easy. I shot at about 70% without first seeing the birds. A group of cowboy shooters came by and asked me to join them. I did and shot for about a hour. A woman was shooting her backup, main match shotgun that started opening after the first shot. She now knows she lacks a backup shotgun for the main match.

Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
The wife and I dined at a Biergarten German restaurant off Bell Ave. Portions were huge. I had Hungarian schnitzel and she had a wild boar sausage. The cucumber salad was superb. Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
Calm winds are forecast every morning of the main match. Black powder shooters in the 8-11 AM shifts will deal with obscured targets. Saturday PM will be breezy. I will shoot then and hope to gain an advantage from the wind. I can keep up with smokeless shooters in a 15-mph wind. Edited February 29 by Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971

Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
Posse 19 shot the middle shift today with Reckon as Posse Marshall. There was a decent wind out of the east for the first two stages that changed to out of the South. I had little problems with smoke obscuring my targets and had stage times similar to smokeless shooters. Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
Posse 19 shot the 8 AM shift the morning. The first two stages had no wind but had large, close targets so I had acceptable stage times given the lack of wind. The final two stages were breezy and I had good stage times. Both my wife and I are clean for the first two days. Whispering Meadows makes delicious jams and jellies from fruit she grows. The half pint jars fit into our tiny TT frig. Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
This afternoon we made a return trip to Yasha’s for more Russian rye bread, Russian sausage and cookies just like the wife ate as a child. Next a stop at Bruno’s for a bag of reclaimed shot for the raffle at the annual club meeting. Finally I picked up my bullet order from Desperado Bullets. My little 38 Special Marlin just cycles these bullets flawlessly.
