I would guess the plastic surface is what the thermometer is reading, but not the temperature of the water behind the plastic.

Doesn’t matter. I found out this morning that my laser thermometer is a POS!

I didn’t know if that would work at all. I can see it on my phone but I don’t know if I can see it because its on my phone or I am seeing it from the cloud.
