Trailrider #896 Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 Be a great idea...IF I could afford to empty my filing cabinets of the @#$%^ paper records I have to keep around!
Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 Gives new meaning to the term, “rifling through the cabinet”.
Rip Snorter Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 The other thing they are great for is ammunition storage. A lot of businesses are paperless so these can be had fairly cheaply.
Wallaby Jack, SASS #44062 Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 As fine of a job as that is, it won't cut the mustard in the state of denial (New South Wales) that I live in. We have govt mandated minimum requirements that must be met, and are regularly inspected about every 6-10 years. Nice job though ........
Gungadin Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 I have an old cabinet that was for some kind of cards. Maybe 3x5. Great for Ammo. Locks are garbage but they keep kids out. Truth is a filing cabinet is as good as some low ends safes because they don't scream GUN. Tying all the drawers together is more secure as it means each drawer is latched by the locking mechanism. The safe companies will get in bed with the antigunners and get higher levels of safes specified.... I have a heater rod (anti humidity) in a mid size safe and a dehumidifier outside it but I'd like to make the dehumidified area smaller.

Most of the filing cabinets we have at work use one of these methods to secure the drawers. More reliable than the built in lock. The first one is easier to install and with a little creativity can be made with little difficulty
