Forty Rod SASS 3935
We need to get Cliff Hanger on this one. He was a submariner and can answer almost any question about them.
Noz
Looks to me like there is a huge amount of faith involved.
bgavin
My mom's Dad was commander of the R4 submarine during WW1 and the S21 after the war. He was awarded the Navy Cross for submarine duties in the Atlantic. He told of the miserable conditions on board... and how he wound up with a fungus infestation in his sinus cavities. He asked the doctor to do a direct shoot of Penicillin into those cavities... either it would cure him or kill him. I understand he told the Secretary of the Navy he couldn't build a decent latrine, let alone a submarine... and got away with it.
Trailrider #896
In spite of the fact that modern subs are officially classified as ships, the submariners still refer to them as "boats".
