"White Death"

"Simo Häyhä, also known as "The White Death," was a Finnish sniper who is credited with killing more than 500 enemy troops within 100 days during the Winter War against the Soviet Union from 1939 to 1940."

The Winter War was an odd one.  After the Soviet invasion, the Finns, in order to both counterbalance Soviet aggression and to gain back the territory lost during the Winter War, allied themselves with Nazi Germany.  More of allowing German troops free passage to attack the Soviets than actually fighting alongside of the Germans.  Then they ended up opposing Germany when they refused to pull their troops out per the treaty.

I haven't read through all of this:  https://scholarworks.umt.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?referer=https://www.google.com/&httpsredir=1&article=6230&context=etd
