Okiepan Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Anybody ever shoot or own a British 577 Snider rifle ?? Comments , Concerns , etc thinking bout getting one thank y'all
Cyrus Cassidy #45437 Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 If memory serves, that was a black powder cartridge of British origin. If my memory is correct, the only advice I have is: 1) make sure you know how to load black powder cartridges, and 2) have the gun inspected / bore scoped before you shoot it.
Henry T Harrison Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Duelist 1954 has a great video on the care and feeding of the 577 on his YouTube channel
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Had a Snider .577 that had belonged to an old man from England. His family gave it to me when I was about 16. Concerns? Hell, yes. I never fired it because no one in northern Utah could get any ammo for it. Strange action on those beasties: opened from the wrong side. I sold it to a college professor my Sophomore year in college.
Judah MacAbee SASS #64095 Life Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 I do. I even shot a plainsman match with it- once. Lots of fun and frustration all in one. There's a ton of info here-https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/britishmilitariaforums/snider-enfield-forum-f2
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 One of our posse members, Jasper Yates, makes a hobby of them. Shoot me a PM with your e-mail addy and I'll try to put you in touch.
