Shotgun Clay
If you come up to the clays range to shoot cowboy clays, the shot size is 7 1/2 or smaller.
PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L
Quote No shot larger than #7 ½ or smaller than #9 is allowed. No steel shot allowed. REF: p.4 - "Cowboy Clays Handbook"
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
And on the Cowboy match, the Shooters Handbook shows this for the rule that regulates shot size in main match: Quote Shotgun (shot) size must be number 4 lead birdshot or smaller for all events (no steel or plated shot). (Shooter's Handbook, Version 23.2, page 27 EOT main and side matches will follow this rule. As SC stated above, if you shoot Cowboy Clays side matches, then 7.5 or smaller. Good luck, GJ
Buckshot Sheridan
Ok that explains where the more restrictive size was coming from
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Quote below the #4 limit You worded your question poorly, so a reminder. The "number" of shot size becomes larger (in value) as the diameter of the shot gets smaller. Saying "below #4 limit" does not clearly state your question. What would clear things up would be to say: "Not larger than number 4 shot" Thus, the rule allows shot sizes of 4, 5, 6, 7.5, 8, 9, even 12 for Cowboy main match. It makes illegal any buckshot, or bird shot like BB, B, 0, 1, 2, 3. Good luck, GJ
Hells Comin
Phantom want to know how can you tell what size there using? and who checks for this. Sorry couldn't resist!
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Size check - A posse marshal with a pocket knife, or better yet, a 12" bowie. Steel shot check - any magnet will do.
Hells Comin
Ok Joe how are we going to tell the difference between - .14 & .15 inch diameter shot ? Don't forget about reclaimed shot who knows what in it. Can't wait for an answer. Lol

Lol You will, if you are accustomed to picking nits this small, obviously have a pocket vernier caliper in your gun cart, good to the nearest thousandth! If you prefer, I'll take your copy of the EOT Stage Booklet and shoot "several" #4 (or 7 1/2 size) holes in it. Then, any shot that won't pass the gauge holes is illegal.
