lights out

A welcome t-storm rolled thru late last night to add some moisture and cool 100-degree heat that's gripped our area. Downside is it took the out the power about 1:30 this morning. Still dark here.

Had a bad feeling about this outage as it felt like the great ice storm of 2002 where it took days and sometimes weeks to restore. Fortunately we got the very last generator at Home Depot when they opened this morning. Running on that now. Noisy as hell, but we have power to essentials like fridge and fans (and laptop!). Hot water and stove are gas so we're good there. Gonna get an electrician in here to wire it for main panel for this and future outages so's we can have a/c and furnace as necessary.

Limping along, but not dead in the water!

Hope they get you back up and running soon.    Happens a lot to us out here in the sticks.   We have add outages several times already this summer due to thunderstorms blowing thru the area.

Bought a whole house generator because we constantly (usually at least once or twice a month) have power outages here in Richmond, TX.  that last several hours.  Have a/c and lights when everyone else is without.

I've got the generator I use with my RV. It's not much but it's enough to run my fridge and freezer. I have a gas lamp for light and I keep my phone charged so that I can check weather.

Hope you get your power back soon.

I’ve been intrigued by the battery that Tesla sells that can power a house, but at a total of around $10,000 including installation I think I’d rather hand-crank my refrigerator.

We got a Generac propane generator and it was nothing but trouble from day one.

Generac gasoline powered generators are reliable as the day is long, dear old Dad has one and he can't say enough good about it.

Once I back up enough shekels I'll put in an automatic start generator and likely will give this Jonah away or donate it to a scrap dealer.

Marshal, generators are briskly discussed on the ham radio forums.

Opinions there echo yours almost universally!

I know nothing about generators and bought our reconditioned Ryobi Sunday morning from Home Depot because it the last one they had. Power just came back a couple of hours ago. Yay!

It ran for 60 hours straight without a hiccup. No complaints

I have not had good luck with Generac gas powered generators. Around here they are cheaply made with shoddy parts.

They are total and complete crapola!

Love my Honda gennys. ;)

Do an oil change and run prem. fuel, since it's an air cooled engine.

Drain the carb when not gonna be used for a spell, and use Seafoam in the fuel.

I let it run dry today as it may be awhile till I use it again. Would you recommend Seafoam with the next tank of gas?

There's still fuel in the carbs bowl. Trust me on this. Many genny carbs have a fuel drain in the bowl. See if yours does.

There's still fuel in the tank. Store with full tank to stop condensation(rust)of the tank.

I use Seafoam in the fuel for all of my tools/toys. 1oz @ gal. of premium.

As usual more than just the OP benefits from the post!

I never knew about Seafoam -- Sta-Bil yes, but I'll find the Seafoam.

Sta-Bil has been advertised but yours is the voice of experience and I prefer to listen to experience!

Many thanks LG!
