Gunsmith question regarding Colt SAA's

Recommended Posts

Hello;

I've got an early model Colt SAA made around 1980 or so. The diameter of the base pin hole on the frame is less then the diameter of the cylinder bushing hole. This is causing the cylinder to wobble slightly.

My question is can an early third generation SAA Cylinder be modified to except the removable base pin bushing that was found on the 1st, 2nd and late model 3rd generation SAA's?

Thank You

Are you saying the inside hole in the cylinder bushing is larger then the diameter of the base pin?

Wouldn't the path of least resistance be to replace the cylinder bushing?

Also, I think base pins were available in several dimensions to tighten up worn bushing fit. It would probably require reaming the frame cylinder pin hole.

The answer to your question is yes. Peacemaker Specialists used to offer that modification. It's not still on their website, but the fact that they offered it means that it is possible.

It kooks to me like all that has to be done is to ream the hole in the cylinder to the proper diameter and fit the bushing.

I would call Peacemaker Specialists and talk to him. The guy knows everything there is to know about Colt SAA's. When I called Colt and wanted to know the bore size of their 3rd gen .44-40's COLT told me to call Peacemaker Specialists. He actually does work for Colt. I'm100% sure he can help you!
