Forty Rod SASS 3935
Last I heard Gustav was in "the tank farm" at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, along with Atomic Annie and dozens of other tanks and artillery pieces from all over the world. But then, I haven't ben there in 50 years, so it might all be a mall or condo area now.
Trailrider #896
One "secret" weapon the Allies tried probably changed the course of history! A series of bombers, primarily B-24's were packed with high explosives. They were crewed by a pilot and co-pilot, who were volunteers. One took off with a young Navy lieutenant at the controls. The idea was that the crew would fly the bomber to the vicinity of the target, and then bail out. Control then passed to a "mother ship" with remote controls to fly it to the target and dive the whole "slave" onto the target. At the point where the mothership to take control, the pilot, a young Navy lieutenant flipped the switch to turn over control. Before he and his co-pilot could bail out, the plane blew up! And Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., his father's hope to run for President, died, leaving his younger brother John the opportunity and the place in history. The project was abandoned.
