Reuben McCoy Rankin # 34239
Is there a lever action rifle that can be modified to fire 44 Russian cartridges reliably?
Rooster Ron Wayne
Not really. Any thing would need the carrier and lifter to be modified for a short shell . But I would bet Stevesgunz.com Could help you accomplish that for a fee :-)
Tyrel Cody
If you can find one, an 1866 or 1873 Uberti in .44 special and a carrier from the smith shop should do the trick: http://www.thesmithshop.com/cbs45.html

The Yankee Bandit, SASS #59258
At cascity.com there is a forum page for people that shoot the 1860 Henry. I've read of a few guys there who have converted their Henry's to 44 Russian, trying to get it a little closer to the original 44 rimfire round. You might start a discussion there and get some help. Bugs Bonney SASS # 10171
Chile Mac shot a Spencer in .44 Russian but then that is probably not the kind of lever action you had in mind.
Colorado Coffinmaker
Actually, it you have the .44 Special rifle to start with, it is a fairly simple thing to set up a Toggle Link Rifle to run .44 Russian. For a '66 or a '73, swap in a custom carrier from " The Smith Shop" and your there. For a Henry, all it takes is a 6-32 set screw in the Carrier Block and some filing. If, on the other hand, you don't have a .44 Special rifle, it gets real complicated and really really expensive. Coffinmaker
Widder, SASS #59054
I've even heard a couple rumors that a good Marlin 1894 can also run the .44 Russian. But that was just a rumor... ..........Widder
