Alpo
While I don't have a problem with cussing (as much as I cuss, I can't really have a problem with it), I do believe it has gotten out of hand. A couple of years ago there was an episode of NCIS called Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Really? It has gotten so acceptable that what the fudge is the title of a Prime Time TV show? Not LATE NIGHT. Not Cable with it's soft-core porn. Network TV, Prime Time, one of the most popular shows on the air.
Lt John Dunbar
I think that , despite the low-class behavior, or otherwise despicable language, of those who would disrespect others,........ .......Yes, I think that we need to honor and respect the First Amendment, because the Second Amendment is next. If we're gonna protect the Constitution, let's be consistent. Let us be proud, Let us be honorable, and let us have the courage of our convictions. Aunt Jen
I don't cuss on a regular basis, but to me, part of being a free spirit also involves not being hung up on language. I find I'm most comfortable with people who also don't really cuss, but who also don't mind if it's there, sometimes. It's just language to me, expressing ideas, emotions.... Utah Bob #35998
Speaking of autocorrect, a friend, former F4 pilot, sent me an email another pilot had written on the F35 program and it's problems. The letter started off with a brief history of Tac Air support. He mentioned the Marines' difficulty getting close air in the Battle of Guadalahara in WWII. HUH? Was this a campaign I missed somehow? A small island named Guadalahara in the Pacific perhaps. Or had we surrepticiously invade Mexico in '43? That would explain a lot. I found out there was such a named battle ...but it was during the dustup in Spain in 1936. Then I realized his I phone had auto-corrected Guadalcanal to Guadalahara. :D

Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217
Hello Folks, If you think profanity and rude behavior are okay here, you should read the Guidelines. http://sassnet.com/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=boardrules "The SASS Wire is designed to provide a series of forums where folks gather and share ideas of similar interests. It’s about fun and family and guests are welcome. We respect everyone’s Constitutional Rights, however, we do not allow those rights to be an excuse for rude behavior or abuse of the Wire. The SASS Wire is an added bonus to SASS membership. It is not a stated benefit, and as such its use by any individual is a privilege. SASS is not obligated to provide this service to anyone and we reserve the right to refuse such service to anyone at anytime... Editing Messages: Procedural SASS Wire Moderators have the authority to Edit Messages and are directed to do so when the message: • Contains profanity, racism, anti-Semitism, sexism or offensive statements." If you think editing profanity on a privately-owned forum is a First Amendment issue, you should read the First Amendment. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Also, the following is on the Cornel Law School Website. https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/obscenity "Obscenity A category of speech unprotected by the First Amendment." "The Supreme Court has also recognized that the government may prohibit some speech that may cause a breach of the peace or cause violence. For more on unprotected and less protected categories of speech see advocacy of illegal action, fighting words, commercial speech and obscenity. " Besides that, remember this Website is our face to the world. People can find this forum with no personal experience with the wonderful people who belong to SASS. Seeing profanity and rude behavior on the forum could turn them away from the sport. We've seen the following frequently, "SASS isn't the Wire and the Wire isn't SASS." What a shame to think that a site about "fun and family" does not accurately reflect SASS. Regards, Allie Mo PS I will leave this as the last word in the thread so the Guidelines are emphasized.
