Marlin Buckhorn,SASS 51727
I know this isn't a SASS question but I am going nuts with this. Maybe somebody could help. It was throwing consiten charges up to 29 or 30 grains. Will not throw anything heavier consistently for me. Lots of powder dropping down and not going in the cartridge as well. Is the 4350 grain just to big and wants to bridge? Is it plugging the case mouth and not filling the case? Please help, "This Hot Rod Lincoln" is driving me to drink! Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
Sounds like the powder is bridging. You can try putting a vibrator on the measure or use a powder with smaller granules. 4350H has smaller kernels to help eliminate the problem. Also partially depends on the caliber. It's harder to jam the powder down a .24 neck than a .35.
Duffield, SASS #23454
Bridging is a problem with large grained powders such as 4350, both IMR and H. You might switch to WW760 or WWMRP, depending on what you are trying to do. Duffield
Blackey Cole
Which powder bar are you using small or large. I'm betting the small one switch to the large bar and try it. Trail boss has the same problem with the small bar.
The Original Lumpy Gritz
Clean the inside of the powder 'funnel' with brake cleaner. You sure that moisture didn't get into the powder? Is this the same can you used before. X2 on large chg bar. LG
Griff
Gotta agree... "bridging". I don't think you can get 29-30 grains of 4350 in the small bar. I was getting inconsistent charges with CFE223, and found that I didn't have the powder die body down far enough to get full travel of the charge bar... It was fine with the small bar when doing light case forming charges, but full loads with the large bar need a longer travel stroke. Now, I'm dropping charges within .05ths of a grain. Verified on a digital jeweler's scale.
Blackey Cole
I stand corrected thanks griff. I forgot the small bar was setup myself
Marlin Buckhorn,SASS 51727
Thanks for the replys gents. Did a Google search and it seems a lot of people have problems doing what I am trying to do. Want to use 4350 because I have a bunch of it and don't shoot much 30-06. Guess I will measure powder through my RCBS into shells on a block and then bullet set and crimp on the Dillon. Should work, I got all Fall, Winter & Spring to load the 1000pcs of brass I have. Thanks again, Marlin
