One man's account of his Vietnam War

Recommended Posts

Glad that some can share their experiences to teach those the horrible realities of war, but definately can appreciate -and respect - those that cannot....

"Hickam returned to Vietnam a few years ago as part of the International Institute of Education, a largely State Department-funded program designed to help educate Vietnamese students about America and the war, which he said isn't taught in Vietnam. Incidentally, he said we won the war thanks to young Vietnamese positive opinions of America. Hickam discussed the war with a Vietnamese writers' group, many of whom had fought on the NVA side, and "We all just kind of went 'What were we thinking?"

Thanks, always, to those valiant men and women who have done something this civilian can never truly understand - your service and sacrifice is honored.

I had a uncle who was a tunnel rat in Vietnam .

He did not talk about it much .

But as I got older we spent a lot of time together.

He love to shoot and drink beer . LOL

He started to open up to me a little when we were having beers and hanging out .

He told me story's about Nam that I cant even comprehend .

He is gone now and I shire do miss him .

Most people thought he was a looser after he came home .

But to tell you the truth he was a Hero .

He just seen and did things a man should not have to see or do.

Homer lives just down the road from me, in Huntsville, Alabama. Seems to be a genuine nice guy.

He's a braver man than I. I could not bring myself to return there...

Gunner, yes! Braver. I don't have the courage to go back there and face my demons again.

Spent three weeks in country this last October-November, and what were we thinking? Not sure back then but now the free market economy is alive and humming.

I know what I was thinking.

I as thinking "We gotta get out of this place. If it's the last thing we ever do...":unsure::lol:

And for about 50,000, it was the last thing they ever did. :FlagAm:

A lot of us were very fortunate.

Yup - God bless their souls and their families....-_-
