Dragon Hill Dave #59561 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Apologies for a Classic Cowboy question to the whole camp, but I like to shoot in the Wild Bunch match as well as the main match at Winter Range and EOT and other matches. I shoot Classic Cowboy in the cowboy match, which requires me to comply with these rules "Costuming: Must choose at least five of the requirements listed below. All clothing items must be worn appropriately during all shooting events and awards ceremonies. Chaps, spurs, cuffs, tie or scarf worn loosely around the neck or with scarf slide, vest, pocket watch with full length chain, jacket, sleeve garters, knife, botas, leggings, braces. . . . Hats must be worn for the entire match." But when I shoot in the Wild Bunch, it has different costuming requirements: "SASS Wild Bunch Action Shooting is a combination of historical reenactment and Saturday morning at the matinee. Participants may choose the style of costume they wish to wear, but all clothing must be typical of the late 19th century and early 20th century cowboy and military. Emphasis is put on period US military from 1900 to 1916. Period western dress is allowed such as Pike, Dutch, Lyle, or Tector in the closing scene of the Wild Bunch movie (e.g., Western style pants with or without suspenders, and long sleeve western shirt). Vests are optional. Boots must be SASS legal. Legal SASS headgear must be worn. Mexican dress is also appropriate." I can imagine times (especially on a really hot New Mexico day in June) when I might want to shoot the Wild Bunch in a "Tector" look--white shirt, black paints, no hat. That doesn't meet the Classic Cowboy requirements for the 5 items minimum or the dictum that "All [Classic Cowboy] clothing items must be worn appropriately during all shooting events." I realize that as a practical matter the issue would likely never be a problem as long as I am in compliance with Classic Cowboy requirements during the main cowboy match, but it would be good to know if I am skirting my CC rules if I am less well-dressed for Wild Bunch. Anybody have any thoughts, rulings, or previous experience on this?
Ghost, SASS #50125 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Hello Dave, As a Classic Cowboy who is also shooting WB at WR, I see no confict with the CC requirements if you want to shoot WB as Tector. I plan to shoot WB as Pike in my nomal costume minus the tie. These are two seperate matches and I do not believe any Classic Cowboy would registor a complaint about being out of costume shooting the WB match. Ghost
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Well ........ Wild Bunch Rules (sic) already state you can shoot in your regular cowboy duds. I don't see it as an issue. Coffinmaker PS: now, if you shoot classic as a "Townie" you might have some difficulty.
Happy Jack, SASS #20451 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Ghost has it right. Wild Bunch Action Shooting and Cowboy Action Shooting are two DIFFERENT shooting disciplines under the umbrella of SASS. What you wear at one has no relationship to what you need to wear for the other. The fact that both shooting disciplines might be held at the same venue in close time proximity does not in any way affect the fact that they are two different matches with different rules. Show up for WBAS in your WB outfit and CAS in your CAS outfit.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 ..... Show up for WBAS in your WB outfit and CAS in your CAS outfit. And they can be the same one.
Cpt Dan Blodgett, SASS #75655 Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Ya think registering a complaint might warrant a SOG penalty
Dragon Hill Dave #59561 Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Thanks guys. Of course the easy answer is just shoot in your Classic Cowboy duds, but I wanted to explore the options. Occasionally they have WB awards during the regular match awards ceremony, and the safe move there is clearly to be in Classic garb. Not that I am likely to get any awards for my WB shooting, but I will be sure to represent CC in the best possible way just in case.
