Since We Have One, Why Not The Other? Your Most Underrated Gun
Red Eye Jim replied to DocWard's topic in SASS Wire Saloon
My 809 is my safe. It broke the right side of the slide release (Left thumb for us southpaws) and I keep loosing the round 'tuit to send it back to Taurus... -
At be begining of the video he mentoned something about 4-5 years which is the life of most car tires... RV/Trailer not so much...

Pietta's Brotherhood Of The Traveling 1858

Did anyone ever use it in a match? That could be a fun addition... -
I'm going to be one of the +1's for suggesting a Dillon 550 for reloading for SASS over using a single stage. I for one would *NOT* recommend doing anything else while reloading, however. I personally just turn on some music and go at it. Not having anything distracting me allows me to focus on "place brass, place bullet, pull handle, push handle, visual verify powder during turn, repeat." Once you have your die heads setup you can usually swap out calibers in about 10 minutes. 20 if you need to change the primer size. Once setup, I crank about 100 rounds in about 45-50 minutes depending on which one. I then pass each one through a checker before putting it in the ammo case. I do need to figure out a better way to check for high primmer though. Using my thumb isn't as good as once was apparently. The last couple of matches my wife has either found high primers when loading or on the line...

I also regret selling my 586-1. It was the first pistol I bought with my own money, and I had to sell it a little over 2 years later so I could pay my rent and still get Christmas gifts for my family. I always figured I'd be able to buy it back after summer fire season. Oh, and whoever said Ruger revolvers over Smith? Depends on the frame. 5/586 in my opinion is the best, then Blackhawk, Vaquero. When you get to small frame, I tend to prefer Ruger but that might be because I think this Security Six fits my left hand better and I really like this trigger, but I do understand why some would want the S&W.

I as well. Kids today I suppose. Just because it's not really designed for +P loads. They didn't really have +P in '66. .357 Magnum was, well, magnum. Sure, it's not a .44 Magnum (that'll blow your head clean off) , but it does its job well. -
This thread reminds me why I love living in the PNW, even if my states are going to hell when it comes to gun laws. I still have Bi-Mart. No need for Walmart at all. Sure it's closer, but I will 10 times out of 10 go out of my way to go to a BiMart. Sure the stores haven't changed decor since the 80's but that's why I love the place. Lucky number Tuesday's were why I always did my dry goods grocery shopping on Tuesday since college. (Bi-Mart doesn't have produce or other perishables. They barely have milk.) But they do regularly have .22 ammo on sale, and occasionally there is some hidden diamond in the gun case that is an absolute steal. Pleasant and helpful staff...

If Low More and I have to travel w/o the RV somewhere small(ish) we've taken to looking to see if there might be a non-chain locally owned motel or hotel or Best Western. Sometimes if you call direct after checking the booking sites you can get the same or better deal and a thank you for keeping the dollars local, but only if it looks like a place where the owner is the person that is likely to pick up the phone when you call. If it's corporate owned, f'get'boutit. Just go with the booking site.

Since when is a Model 19 underrated? That's classic K Frame. I mean sure, I miss my 586-1, but the 19 has been around slightly longer than me... -
Never really thought about it. My daily carry is a Security Six in a pocket holster (left front). If I feel I might need something with a few extra rounds, it's outside the waistband and since I almost always wear Hawaiian shirts over t-shirts that I leave unbuttoned so you can read the t-shirt, I never have to worry about buttons...

Use chamber checkers AND Lee FCDs?
Red Eye Jim replied to Nostrum Damus SASS #110702's topic in SASS Wire
How would you use this die in a 550? In the last position? -
I originally purchased a Mercnickle SASS Starter set for my wife, but the holsters are sitting up way to high. She needs drop holsters. The replacements are going to cost me $400 from Mercnickle if I go there, so I thought I would check and see what is available on the SASS wire first. We are in the PNW (Orygun Cowboys).

Apparently there has to be an actual grave involved to be considered graverobbing? -

That's almost tempting, although her alias is Low More... (It's actually how you pronounce her first name..)

I did almost go with Jim E. Crackcorn...
