What side matches do you usually have?  I'm thinking of coming, pending some family commitments that may or may not get confirmed.

  2. That happened to me with some 32 HR mag cartridges - changed bullet profile cause it was what I had but they wouldn’t chamber all the way. Didn’t do what @Garrison Joe, SASS #60708 does - reseated and had that sliver of lead around mouth. They chambered FINE! It was unloading them that was a pain. I was at a match so I got my handy dandy pocket knife and removed the offending sliver! Fortunately, I did NOT have 600!

I am usually smarter than that - you change one thing - you CHECK that it’s gonna work. Lesson learned!

    Big hugs!

  3. This is one of the most under valued and FUN matches around! Tommy and I have so much fun there! The Boy Scouts are FABULOUS and really hustle getting the carts to the right stage! And, they know how to use a variety of brakes!

The Ohio cowboys and cowgirls can COOK, too! @mean gun mark is already planning the menu - ribs, brisket… OMG! It’s all so good.

I cannot recommend this match more! It’s fast and fun - but different shooting down and across a ravine.

You WILL have fun! You won’t be hungry and you’ll make a bunch of friends and reconnect with a bunch more!

    Hugs!

This jail is a challenging stage. You can see the targets through the bars.

For a 3 plate Nevada Sweep, a GUNFIGHTER could anchor their left (or right) pistol on the center plate (P2) for 1st shot, 3rd and 5th shot.

The other pistol would only have to shoot 2nd shot on P3 and then 4th shot on P1.   Or similar depending on which direction they

    choose to go.

    ..........Widder

as a DOUBLE COCKING gunfighter, I would start in the center and do 3,4,3,2,3.  TADA! :)

I also really don't comprehend how it's unfair to any particular shooting style, especially gunfighters

    It’s not… I’d love this stage! I’d do

P3 P3 then work outside and back in on both sides ending with a double

    tap on P3! Fun!

It's that loading gate detent, spring not the cylinder. I've repaired a couple. Always the same cylinder that skips.

WOW! Wasn’t this your answer on a recent different thread? Crazy how a little part - spring and detent can impact something so much.

  9. I shoot 32 HR Mag in my pistols and 38 Spl in my rifle. First time I wet tumbled at a friends house - didn’t occur to me. The 32 fit EXACTLY inside a 38Spl case! I hand sort before I tumble and it does NOT MATTER… I always miss one or two.

Is there a video or written directions with photos on cleaning under the extractor?

It’s very simple. Remove bolt and use the handy dandy gadget. See pictures. IMG_3536.thumb.jpeg.2c5ac5541094afcf01c9b4ee2b3c6318.jpeg
the block holds the bolt for 73 and/or 66.

    IMG_3533.thumb.jpeg.495c8e9075115f977e96c359184ba441.jpeg
punch, comes with kit, out the pin. Dont move the block and you won’t lose the pin. You can reuse it.

    IMG_3534.thumb.jpeg.89453479bca360eb74a4369cb2ca79fc.jpeg
see how dirty it is? Doesn’t take much to build up and raise the extractor so it can’t grab the case rim.

    SHINY and clean!

    IMG_3532.thumb.jpeg.3e83fe440e5ad00c34a4454fe6c921a1.jpeg
line up extractor and bolt. Insert pin.

    Hope this helps you!

What's funny is that if a pistol sequence is very difficult, I just concentrate on shooting the targets in the correct order and I don't think about single or double cocking.  Whatever comes out of the revolvers just happens.  Most of the time this works just fine; occasionally, at the end of a string a revolver will just go click.  When that happens, I just shoot it with the other revolver.

I do this. If I try too hard, I mess up.

Widder never told me to not listen or @Krazy Kajun… or not to double cock…Double cocking works for ME!

  12. And, don’t forget to remove and clean under the handy dandy new extractors! The carbon build up gets under it and, over time, lifts the extractor and it can’t engage the fired case.  I have a handy dandy gadget for such. :D

Glad you’re back in business. You remind me that I need to add one to my travel kit.

    Glad you came to SC.

  13. I was in Norfolk, Virginia a year or two ago eating lunch after touring the USS Wisconsin. My Daddy served on her. Anyway, get a text from FedEx that 120# of smokeless powder had been delivered and signed for by E. Tipton (me). I live smack in the middle of the city less than a block from the Courthouse and I’m several hours away - there’s two huge packages labeled EXPLOSIVE/HAZARDOUS on my stoop. I was furious. Called ShootersWorld, they RAISED all kinds of hell with FedEx. Powder was there when I got home.

During Covid, drivers were allowed to sign.

If it says signature required, it better be MY signature. If driver has permission to sign and something happens to package? No recourse.

FWIW, I get to know my drivers, thank them, compliment them to their supervisors, and tip them generously at Christmas.

    Hugs!

  14. I do the exact same thing as @Badlands Bob #61228  Exactly. Though he does it quicker than I and probably more efficiently. :P

My brain can NOT alternate. I “generally” shoot odd shots Left and even shots Right but double cocking works with my brain and allows me to change leads without crossing over or really thinking about it.

I agree with Bob, too, on split pistols with a gun in between. Without, I move with the guns - why? Because I’m a GUNFIGHTER! :D Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter!

  15. For clarification: I have NO INTEREST in slip hammering.

I am still curious about the folks I see go around… fast shooters - what I would classify as top 15%…at a state match. With less than a second or two separating places, a go around could cost a win.

@Captain Bill Burt I ONLY shoot Jimmy Spurs pistols :) ! He’s the best! He said, “you don’t need a short stroke, you need a smooth stroke” and, get the full hammer strike. Half cock prevents any go around for me. And, the set back triggers are killer!

  17. I shoot FCGF and do not slip hammer. I did for a time when I first started and viewed it as a bad habit for ME - I shot between a lot of targets! lol.

This past year we traveled a LOT. I shot with folks from all over and noticed…  shooters who have a lot of go arounds seem to slip hammer. Seems to me that in slip hammering, some function is not performing as it should and firing pin is not engaging the primer properly…  @Red River Ray SASS#33254 on rifles:  lever, trigger, lever, trigger… does the same not apply to pistols?

It seems to me that an awful lot of time is wasted going around… thereby eliminating ANY gained benefit of the method…

    Hugs!
