The LST-325—the last fully operational WWII Landing Ship Tank (LST)—is open for tours seasonally throughout the year in her home port of Evansville, Indiana. She leaves port in the early fall to sail the nation’s inland rivers. Her crew of volunteers shares the history of these incredible vessels, the men and women who built them, and those who served on them.

Definitely worth seeing if you can, also the book about brining it back from greece is a good read.

My first ship was the first LST of the new class, LST 1179, USS NEWPORT.  Commissioned 01NOV1966.  Decommissioned 01OCT1992.

I can only imagine how the WW2 LSTs fared in heavy weather.

My son was on the Tuscarora.  OOPS, I meant Tuskaloosa, 1187.  (All those "Tuskas
run together.)  It, too, has been decommissioned.

In 28 months he travelled further than I did in 16 years.

When it was found in Greece. And made seaworthy.

The captain was the one that was the captain during WW2.

As was some of the crew.

Talk about reliving your youth.

The LST in Evansville is a great visit. A close friend (Navy veteran) worked on the ship when they brought it back and took a  river cruise on it. 40 miles away, in Vincennes IN is another great museum- Indiana Military Museum. Lots of stuff inside and lots more big stuff outside. Each year they have a WW1, WW2 and Vietnam  appreciation days  and reenactments.  WW2 coming up Aug 31st 20204. In recent years they acquired the Conning Tower from the sub Indianapolis and have it installed outside looking like it is mounted on top of the sub at water level.  Evansville has a museum that is dedicated to the role it played in production of equipment in WW2.  For instance, almost all 45 ACP ammo was made in Evansville. Also, tanks and airplanes P-47! Great people at all 3 venues.
