southparkslim Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 Looking for a couple reduced power springs for UBERTI BISLEY revolver these hammer springs differ from the regular hammer springs used on all the other revolvers....................................any ideas?
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708 Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 I'd order factory springs for those, from VTI parts house or Taylors or even Uberti USA and hourglass the springs (or have a good gunsmith do them). Wolff, a major maker of coil springs, just won't have anything. And being Uberti Bisleys with an odd shape, doubt you will find anything but the factory spring shapes. good luck, GJ
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 PLUS ONE for Garrison Joe. The Uberti Bisley is a low volume item and there are no after-market Main Sprigs available. DIY. Best learn "Spring Grinding 101" and buy a couple of "spares" before you start. Yule need 'em.
The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Order a couple sets and experiment
Cheyenne Ranger, 48747L Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 My understanding (but I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn) is to wasp-waist them from the sides. don't reduce the thickness, rather narrow both sides in a smooth curve from near the top to near the bottom then file/sand/stone them smooth to remove any rough places that might allow cracks to develop. take it easy--don't heat them any more than is necessary and the cardinal rule: you can always take off more--putting it back is tough
Kid Rich Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Use the slowest speed grinder that you can. Grind a little and dip it in water to cool it. Biggest enemy to springs when grinding is overheating them, it will destroy the temper. They can be retempered but you have to know what you are doing. kR
