Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001 Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 figure it be a mite big for a fishing boat , BUT it would keep folks off your spot CB
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 The other Higgins boat is the LCVP Landing craft which is up there with the DUCK, Jeep, DC3, which are credited as being the vehicles that most helped to win the war.
Irish Pat Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 Higgins changed his name to Andrew Jackson Higgins as he wanted to be known as the 2nd savior of New Orleans. After the war when the PT boats were being burned in the south Pacific and Formosa he bought their engines and had them shipped to New Orleans to build yachts. the wood they were crated in turned out to have Formosa termites which have eaten up New Orleans
watab kid Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 always thought it would be fun to own/restore one of those , a lot more boat than i need but , sure would enjoy driving one
Irish Pat Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 they have a restored PT that you can ride in Lake Pontchartrain
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Sometime in the last 20 years or so a group of old sailors brought a Higgins boat, landing craft, back to Louisiana and restored it.
Irish Pat Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 they used those in the swamps in Louisiana for oil drilling and exploration and were perfect for the troops. One of my dad’s friends joined the coast guard to get out of action so he thought. he drove landing craft in the Pacific in two or campaigns
