H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619 Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 I just came across an (old) add for a Uberti 66 in .38 S&W caliber. It's an expired listing for Cabela's, that is to say it's already been sold. The details on the listing are sparse, but it clearly says, ".38 S&W." No pics of the rifle show the caliber designation. " Now, for some reason, my gut is telling me that the listing is in error, that the gun is probably a .38 Special, more "accurately" termed ".38 S&W Special" but the possibility that it might actually have been a .38 S&W is intriguing to me. Are there any experts here on what calibers Uberti marketed their 66 in? I've always wanted a main match rifle in this caliber, but as far as I know, one has never been made. I am now wondering if there may not actually be one.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 I have learned never to say never. However, in over 20 years an active hard working Gunplumber, I never had occasion to see, fondle nor work on an 1866 in 38 S&W. I also don't "think" Uberti ever built a Carrier Block for anything that short. Ummmmm.
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Cabela's error. Factory sure didn't make it, and if someone had converted it there would be a lot of work involved and I'm sure they would have mentioned that.
watab kid Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 im going to guess it was 38 S&W spcl , i cannot imagine it in 38 S&W , but i could easily be wrong ......id also be interested if there was such an animal ,
