Broken Mainspring

The mainspring broke on my 3rd Gen Colt!  .  Would a Cimarron Pietta Parts Mainspring work as a replacement or would the NUMRICH mainspring part be a better choice?  I don't want any light springs, I just want as close to original as possible.

Thanks all.

Well, Wyatt took care of you but to answer the question, any spring from an Uberti or Pietta should work.  Some springs may need shortening at the top end.

Before fitting the new mainspring, be sure to burnish the edges/sharp corners on it with a smooth hard steel round rod

of some kind so there are no nicks or sharp spots along the sides/edges of the curved part.  This to remove any stressors that might result in future breakage.

Wolf springs from Brownells are very good.  Also, IMO, it is not good to grind or file a mainspring except as Brasspounder suggested.

Actually, Filing/Grinding/Sanding Main Springs is not a problem as long as one understands how NOT to overheat the spring and understands how to remove the Stress Risers.   Before reliable after-market main springs became commonplace, it was the only method to "Tune" main springs.  Just have to know what yer doing.
