Hi, everyone.

I don't normally do this, and you should all feel free to ignore this message.  But recent events have prompted me to share this beyond the circle I would normally present it to.  If this is in violation of the rules for the Saloon, I ask the moderators to remove it.

I'll assume that most of you don't know this, but in my second job, I am the part time pastor of a small Baptist church in the area where I live.  I recent Covid outbreak a couple of towns over caused us to have to cancel services today.  Originally I was going to post a message online about how going to the House of the Lord should fill you with joy.   But then last week happened. and I felt like I had to address it.  But in what context? I am not one to normally let current events dictate what I preach, but all of this was not capable of being ignored. After pondering it for a while, I decided that I wanted to speak about how Jesus cares about us, and that we can give our burdens to him. I hope you find the message to be of value at this troubled time. You can find it here...

I will point out that the tone is in places "Evangelistic." I merely offer the link for you to follow or ignore as you see fit.  Please feel free to contact me privately if you wish to discuss these matters further.

I'm not sure how to respond, other than to offer my thanks for your thoughtfulness in helping others. As a Buddhist, I will guess that much of your message would be lost on me, but I recognize and appreciate your effort. Having said that, I have always considered one of the benefits of religion, and of learned teachers, is the ability to help others living in the present. To that extent, current events sometimes require us to have "teachable moments." If one cannot leave a service, a prayer or a meditation filled with joy, then hopefully they can at least leave with peace and contentment.

Moderators,

I listened to HK’s entire message and feel no need for it to be removed. He advocates nothing that is against the Forum’s guidelines, and his words will bring comfort to some.
That’s good enough for me in these times.

any message of hope is welcome to me these days , having lived through the polio epidemic and a lot of others i no longer take for granted that life will always get better , but i dont see this one as all that bad so far , not tryning to diminish in anyway the losses it has caused , im just certain when my time comes it will be time , in the meantime im convinced that a positive attitude and caring outlook will get us a lot farther than most of the government measure we have seen so far ,
