Major Landslide Destroys 8 Homes In Northern Norway

Notice that when the guy filming walks up to the gray house there are no cracks in the drive but when hew starts leaving there are cracks in the ground in front of the RV. The wide angle footage is the area he was just in sliding into the sea.

A major #landslide of more than 400-500 meter long and 30 meter high occurred in Alta, northern Norway on Wed. afternoon and has taken several houses into the sea. The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) has reported a minor landslide in this area on May 29, 2020 (https://lnkd.in/gziBAFe), a few days before occurring the main/major landslide. According to local media reports, several smaller landslides occurred in the hours following the main incident and the instability continued for several hours (see drone Footage). NVE district engineer Anders Bjordal was on site and said that NVE is conducting investigations of the failed area. As per him, it was a “Quick Clay Landslide”. Quick clay, also known as Leda clay and Champlain Sea clay in Canada, is any of several distinctively sensitive glaciomarine clays found in Canada, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Finland, the United States, and other locations around the world. The clay is so unstable that when a mass of quick clay is subjected to sufficient stress, the material behavior may drastically change from that of a particulate material to that of a watery fluid.
