Handy
I have a pard that I work with that inherited a real nice 1885 Winchester Single shot. I would like to get 5 or 6 cartridges for him. They are only for display so dummies would be fine.
Bitterroot Jake, SASS #9532
Is the 1885 a 25-20 Winchester or a 25-20 Stevens single Shot? Two totally different cartridges. Mostly likely the 25-20 Winchester being it for a Winchester rifle
Handy
It is a 1885 Winchester.
Cat Cummings SASS #1870L
The cartridge needed, is it 25-20 (25 W.C.F.) or the longer 25 Single Shot? The .25 Single Shot is a bit longer and hard to find... Cat
cowrustler
I believe most of these were .25 SS, not .25WCF, even in Winchesters. Some were re-chambered to .25 WCF later on as .25 SS is not an easy cartridge to come by-and hasn't been for a long time.
Zeb Gray, #36839
It would not be unusual to find an 1885 Low Wall chambered for the 25-20 SS cartridge as that cartridge was introduced around 1882. It was also chambered in other rifles like the Stevens & the Maynard. The shorter, stubbier 25-20 WCF did not come out until 1894-95. Winchester developed the 25-20 WCF as a necked down 32-20 for the 1892 lever action repeater. I have an 1885 Low Wall in 25-20 SS & know of two others in my area of SW Minnesota. Mine was manufactured in 1893. Brass can be found in the Buffalo Arms catalogue. http://www.buffaloarms.com/Reloading_Brass_Cases_pr-3834.aspx?CAT=3834 The Captech (Jamison) brass can be purchased as single cartridges but is currently on back order. Bertram brass is in stock, but only in lots of 20.
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Handy: Let me look at what I have. I may be able to make you up a few 25-20 dummies. --Dawg

Chili Ron
Howdy, I might be useful as a rubber cane, but I will be doing some cleaning and might find some 25-20 old rounds. It just seems like there were a few in the bottom of a box. If Dawg takes care of you all good. These might be another caliber..... too early, needs coffee..... Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Handy: I looked all over the gun room and was unable to locate my 25-20 stuff. Maybe it's there, and I didn't see it. I will continue to look this week, but I wanted to give you an update. Sorry --Dawg
