Deacon Stone Sass#58681
I have a new set of 51 Navy's that have the typical barrels. I want to either buy new barrels or have these cut down. Now I'm sure I'm not the first one to do this. So where do I start? Is there some place to to go? Deacon Stone
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
What do you mean by "typical" barrels? If you are talking about length they are soft steel and easy to cut down. You do have to cut a new dovetail for the lever latch, shorten the loading lever (and recut the end for the spring and latch) and make a new front sight. Whether you can do this yourself depends on your particular skills.
Deacon Stone Sass#58681
My last resort is to cut them. Thought I might be able to buy the barrels ready to go. Deacon Stone

Deacon Stone It is more cost effective to sell what you have and buy the 51 Pietta Sheriff models. VTI, has the parts at times. When I inquired last they were not available. The parts you seek; are the Sheriff model barrel & loading rammer. IIRC; the barrel is approx. $100.00 & the loading rammer $ 50.00. + shipping. Deacon Stone Sass#58681
Hi Dawg I've been looking at Ebay and all I see is the 7 1/2. Do I just need to be patient? Really I thought you would have a pair setting around. Deacon Stone
J-BAR #18287
Got a little sale goin' on at Cabela's: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Pietta-Model-1851-Confederate-Navy-44-Caliber-Revolver/735152.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dpietta%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts%26WTz_st%3D%26WTz_stype%3DSP%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26recordsPerPage%3D44%26search%3Dpietta%26searchTypeByFilter%3DAllProducts%26x%3D22%26y%3D13%26WTz_srn%3DSeeAllItems&Ntt=pietta&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products Yeah, I know, brassers aren't the most desirable, but as backups to your ROAs, they might give you some variety. Or you could just buy these for the barrels and put your 7 1/2 inchers on the brass frames.
Fingers McGee
Assuming you new Navies are .44 cal, what J-Bar said. Easiest way to accomplish what you want, and you can sell the brass framed pistols with 7 1/2 inch barrels later. Lefty Dude, SASS # 51223
For the price of the Cabela Brassers you could buy them, keep the 5 1/2" barrels. Part out the rest of the piece, frame, grips, trigger guard & cylinder, etc. You might be money ahead.
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Actually.......I would probably do the buy a pair from Cabelas, swap the barrels & sell them too. If you don't want to do that, you can find them on ebay if yer patient. But, you woould probably save $$ just buying & swapping. --Dawg
