Doc Fill 'Em 67797
Our club is having it's annual match Labor Day weekend. The Long Range Rifle side match says "200 yard big bore lever action, 300 yards big bore single shot". Lever action rifles are allowed to be used at 300 yards if loaded singly. I have a new 38-55 Marlin I'd like to use this year. Can I use it?
irish ike, SASS #43615
38-55 is considered "Big Bore" at least everywhere I've shot. Ike

Griff
Ask your Match Director. Some clubs state "rifle caliber rifle" so's to avoid having someone claim their .45Colt is a "big bore". At every one I've been to, I've used my .30-30. Did I already say, "ask your Match Director?"
Three Foot Johnson
Yes. • “Rifle Caliber” competition rifles must use traditional, period, rimmed cartridges. No cartridge chambered for use in any SASS approved main match revolver or rifle may be used in the “Rifle Caliber” competition, except the .56-50. Thus, .30-30 (.30 WCF), .38-55 Marlin & Ballard, .43 Spanish, or .45-70 Government cartridges are legal, while a .375 Winchester, .444 Marlin, .32-20, or .44-40 are not legal. Shotguns using slugs are not allowed. Buffalo Rifle category has to be .375" or larger, so .38-55 also qualifies for this too, with black powder.
