I hear your pain. I do not know what has been going on with the SASS Wire but I will find the problem with it. I don't visit the wire too much and rely on others to give me the status. It seems as if we have had our share of problems. We are planning an upgrade to the newest version of IP Forums with in the next week or so but obviously this is not the only problem. Please be a bit more patient and I will get the problem solved.

Thanks

My words were perhaps a bit harsh.

I apologize.

There are a lot of things for me to be frustrated about that are a lot more important than the speed of a bulletin board.

CC, shame on you. As the Wire administrator I would think that you would keep a little closer eye on the happenings here. At least scan the thing & email Black Harris and ask if there's any problems you need to address once every day or two.

Folks,

This thread has been left open so you could discuss the issue. Having said that the Guidelines will be enforced. If you are not clear on the rules take a couple of minutes and review them.

Thanks

I've spoken with the very nice gal at the SASS office several times regarding advertizing, etc. She monitors the wire and is very much aware of the costs to operate the virtual real estate AND the potential revenue stream of ads on the Wire.

Also I note, while the income from the dues and the calculated ad income can be derived, printing and postage costs alone, not to mention costs associated with publication fo the CC eat a good dent out of those numbers. SASS is supposed to be a money-making business, and I don't fault em that at all, but let's realize "handle" and "profit" are far, far from the same thing.

As I said above, if SASS figures out how to move some ads onto the pages of the wire that actually get the clicks, they will be able to solve, and their advertizers will demand they solve, the $$/techology issues.

Until then I can only surmise the WIRE is a line item in a budget, a COST, and the WB sees it as a bene tossed to the membership, not as a revenue stream.

Facebook is free too.No problems. And you can bet sass is on that. It's about honor,if i supply something free or not it's gonna work period.THE COWBOY WAY!

Be careful what you wish for - they might decide to meet your definition of honor and stop providing a free internet forum for folks to share until it works to your satisfaction.

My Cowboy way is this: To all the SASS folks who provide this service, as a gift, and who provide the time and efforts to keep it going - THANK YOU!

If I ever have any issues enjoying this free gift you've given to me and to others, I'll try to be polite enough to send a PM to someone who can work on it, and

not throw a tantrum in public.

YMMV

BH, would you please communicate to CC that forum upgrades are a task of nothing more than remote downloading the current file versions to the server that this forum is on. Call it 'automatic updating' if you may. It may take some additional upgrading on SASS IT's part, dependent on the sequential versions needed to bring the Wire to current version of the software:

Current Version of the Wire ... Powered By IP.Board 2.3.5 © 2011 IPS, Inc.

Lastest IP Board Version ... 3.1- http://www.invisionpower.com/products/board/

It is an exercise that does not take an inordinate amount of effort and time. There is a good probability that some of the SASSnet issues will be corrected/eliminated, upgrading the existing old protocols to the current version protocols

PS: Advanced Attachment Uploading and Polls would be nice features to turn on for the Wire. Thank Ye Kindly!

+1. Some of you might want to read the guidelines before you are on the outside looking in.

I haven't found the wire to be that slow that often, but maybe I'm not on as much as some. I certainly enjoy it more than the other forums that I've visited, but that's probably because it seems more ....personal for the lack of a better description. I recognize many of the people here as folks that I've met and shot with first hand. I enjoy reading what interests the people that participate in this hobby. I laugh and smile at some of the silly words written by many. Sometimes I'm somber when I read about bad things happening to good people. On occasion I actually glean information that almost passes for wisdom from some that post here. Heck I even enjoy picturing some of you with red faces and waving your arms emphatically as you argue over whether it's day or night! If on occasion the wire is a little slow I can't see the major problem. Coming back in a few hours or a few days doesn't really cause the world to stop.

One thing I've found true today as it was the first day I became a SASS member, I could always count on the Wild Bunch to do their best. When they have made mistakes they move quickly to correct the situation. I guess that's why I'm not a huge fan of the TG system. I like it best when the folks that initiated this past time make the decisions as to how they want it to perform. Max Montana just hopes they want to keep doing it, because without them he ceases to exist and many of his friends of long years known only by their cowboy alias ceases to exist likewise.

For these reasons, Max becomes frustrated when he observes those that seem to want to only cause trouble and not be constructive in their words and deeds. Which is fine as long as he keeps it to himself, but if it gets bad enough, then Max will let the beans spill to the Family. And the Family is made up of some nasty individuals that you wouldn't want ta meet up with. I mean not only the likes of Chubby Johnson or Utah Johnny Montana(he dropped the Cougar), but 'Ole One Eye Montana, East Side Montana, Jumpin' Jersey Montana, Valentine's Day Montana, or the worst of all Cherokee Kit Montana, they all have a way of showin' up and puttin' stuff right when Max gits outa sorts. I'm not really sayin' anything, but I'm just sayin'....

As you can tell by now I've taken over Max's teletype machine while he's off in the bunk house. I just thought some of ya'll needed to have something to think about rather than go jumpin' off a cliff into too deep water.

John Boy, as one of the founders of TOR I understand and appreciate you defending it. I am the same way with things I hold dear. So please know that I love TOR and CASCity too and dearly wish I had more time to hang out both places. The fact remains and it's a dern shame that TOR is absolutely moribund. There is no other way to describe it when a months old post is still on page one. I hate it and wish it weren't so, but it is.

The sad fact we hate facing is that we are a dying breed. Folks these days have no memory of Hoppy, Gene and Roy except for us dinosaurs who once upon a time were wide-eyed kids just eating up the oaters. Now we average one oater movie release a year and it makes news just because it is an oater. May have even been more than a year between Appaloosa and the new True Grit. I have high hopes TG 2 will be so successful we will begin to see more westerns made.

On TV we have zero zip nada. Been over 10 years since the new Magnificent Seven. I really enjoyed that TV program but how long did it last? One season?...

People these days want to shoot paintball or if real cartridges then it's the black guns. It is what it is.

Sigh...

I understand and appreciate the position you're in, and YOUR hard work and dedication is also a thankless job. The problem as I see it, is the appearance of nothing being done, or at least the efforts are poorly communicated to the members, and that's when the threads tend to get ugly. If someone in authority could take 5 minutes and post a thread that they're aware of the problem and what's being done, it would go a long way to fixing things. If it requires funding, I would be happy to contribute!

Has anyone deleted there Cache or cleared there history. Sometimes that works to speed things up.

I have been doing that pretty frequently the last 2 or 3 weeks and maybe 1 out of 6 times it helps (which is why I have kept doing it). The thing is I am on a few other forums and they all run just fine when the Wire is bogged down.

I even went and upgraded my PC memory from 1GB to 4GB a few weeks ago and that didn't help the wire speed issues (it does make some other applications I have run faster so that is good)

I am not complaining here, just providing more input/data. From what I have read in this thread, they are trying to make it better.

I'm a newbie but I have noticed this forum is a bit slow sometimes.

I figured since nearly everyone here is over the age of 60 nobody minded.
