  1. I listen to Hornady podcasts (a lot) and the way they explain the process of making powders, sounds very involved. Some powders are hollow inside to provide better ignition. Some powders have a flame-retardant coating to slow the ignition. Some powders need to be flattened to expose more surface for ignition. While he didn't explain the extra steps, he did say there was a great deal of more labor involved. His example was it would take selling five containers of Trail Boss to make the same profit as one container of Retumbo. If I were a business owner, making Trail Boss would be the last on my list, especially when the market is gobbling up powder as fast as it is made. I bought two pounds of Reloder 26 at $52 per pound because I need it for a new rifle I am getting, and I have been waiting years to see it. I bought a pound of Retumbo at almost the same price for the same reason. I wanted some CFE-223 and my LGS had it at $39.99 so I bought two because no one else had it in my area.
  2. Yes. He said it was made in Australia as are a few other popular powders. He mentioned Retumbo and a few others that I forgot.
  3. The rep told me that Trail Boss was not impacted by REACH. He said some powders were but a replacement for the impacted compound has been developed. He also said they are focused on the hungry US markets now but when demand slows they will start shipping to the EU.
  4. If the Pietta hand-finished version isn't your cup of tea, Taylor's & Co. is offering a Cerakote version of the SAA clone this year. It reminded me of a Ruger Wrangler in color. If Cerakote is your thing, I recommend checking it out.
  5. I stopped by the EMF/Pietta booth at Shot Show 2024 and they have a new SA Colt close that looks outstanding. My understanding is they are CCH and final finished here in the US. I did not get a price. The CCH is real charcoal and bone, not a chemical treatment. I think they look fantastic. I think they start shipping soon.
  6. I spoke with a Hodgdon rep at the Shot Show today about Trail Boss. He felt it would start shipping again this spring. I expect it will take a long period before the market is saturated and it’s common on the shelf. he said the reason it’s not currently being made is the contractor that makes it also makes Retumbo and other powders that are a higher profit product. The rep said Trail Boss was a low-profit product because of the extra steps required to make it. He said the contractor was going to make high-profit powders first, then go to the low-profit powders. I suspect the world shutting down for COVID is a hard hurtle to get over when no money is being made. So, making higher profit powder to recover makes sense. I am seeing Retumbo and other popular target shooter and hunting powders back on the shelf more and more so that falls in line with what he told me. I expect every bit of Trail Boss to be gobbled up as fast as it hits the shelf until every subsonic shooter feels secure in their stash. On the bright side, I bought a brick of Federal LPP at CAL Ranch last week for $59.99. They had more but I left them for the next guy.
  7. Why does this remind me of a Mel Brooks movie?
  8. The last time I tried to by the hatter out Cave Creek way he was not open on weekends. Make plans accordingly.
  9. I like my Pietta 1886 Winchester clone. It is true to the original and accurate.
  10. I’m curious why our TG is not listed.
  11. I recommend you read up on mold beagling. I did it to increase the diameter of my .406 bullets for 40-82. All you need is the aluminum duct sealing tape. My article on the topic is on the Guns magazine website or you can check out castboolits.com and search for beagling bullets.
  12. You have to be a SASS member to sell here or offer to sell.
  13. Just an FYI, the Colt screwdrivers were manufactured by Diamond (roller) Chain Company in Indianapolis, IN for Colt. The factory was just torn down two months ago. The factory was built on a graveyard. I worked there for 11 years.
  14. Statistically speaking, 50% of all doctors graduated at the bottom of their class.
  15. A study I read 20 years ago recommended eating raw onions and garlic to remove heavy metals.
  16. It's like the difference between a pond and a lake, according to Ray Scott, founder of BASS. It all depends on whether you're buying or selling property. If you're selling, it's a lake. If you're buying, it's a pond.

  18. I foresee 30 years from now the son will want to have the gun refinished back to how dear old dad bought it originally because that's how dad would have wanted it.
  19. Click Bait. He is trying to monetize his Youtube channel. The more views, followers, and likes he gets, the more he goes up.
  20. I used to shoot with a guy that used a .36 C&B. He would always warn the spotters that he was using it and please be alert for hits. I did my best.
  21. Back when I used to go the Friendship for the NMLRA spring shoot, they held a night fire to entertain the folks. Fire and Smoke, what a rush I got, as the song goes.
  22. So it makes more of a pa-tang when it hits the target at 300 fps!
  23. It may depend on your powder. I used to have a .357 that put on a heck of a pyrotechnic show at dusk which was fun. As others have said, check the gap on both revolvers to compare. I have a few Uberti revolvers that have no visible gap, which may cause issues if I use them heavily. There is a reason you are not supposed to hold a revolver around the cylinder with the support hand. Flame can be normal. A gap is required to prevent cylinder drag as carbon builds while shooting.
