  1. Been eyeing on another 22 revolver. Ive heard some good, mostly bad on these guns. Anyone own one, if so what's your thoughts? May just end up buying another heritage lol idk yet.
  2. Thanks for all the input fellas!
  3. My new vaquero and my running iron both shoot low. Ive been reading online about people filing a bit of the site off. Is this common practice for helping with the issue?
  4. Anyone got a good idea of the value of the all original mark 1 revolvers? I have an old one my dad got from my uncle. Me and my brother been researching it online and found the prices anywhere from 1500-2600 on auction sites. Ours dates to 1897 or before going by serial number and stamps.
  5. Just shopping around and asking opinions on a good gunsmith for ruger new vaqueros. Thanks
  6. Checked and double checked. Everything runs fine. The only part that held me up the whole time was the hammer plunger. I didn't have the notch aligned correctly.
  7. I'm stubborn so I just went through it myself. I'd say I'm pretty comfortable with it now after having disassembled and reassembled 10 times lol. I went into it looking at how things fit, I got better once I learned what each piece did and why it fit there.
  8. Well ill say this. Whichever i gun remove the bluing from wont be to impress or fool anyone its something its not. Nor do I care. I just enjoy the aged look. After all your opinions though I think I may try this on a stoeger vs doing it to my brand new vaquero. Definitely something I wanna do though. Thanks again fellas, great input as always!
  9. Where I'm at is I bought a ruger vaquero I plan to shoot, carry etc. I wanna pass it down one day to my son. So resale I'm not worried about. I really just wanted to make sure I wouldn't mess up my gun by removing it. I like the natural look and if the only catch is making sure its oiled good I have that covered. Ofc maybe I should test this on my cheaper single action first lol. Beautiful gun you have there by the way!
  10. So just extra cleaning needed then?
  11. Any negatives of doing this? Say a person didn't like the bluing on thier gun and wanted a more natural look. Are there any big negatives or things to look out for?
  12. I've watched probably a hundred by now lol. I ordered a shop manual on rugers so gonna study that as well.
  13. It does sometimes and other times it sticks. Could you explain your last sentence? I also noticed a notch on the hammer plunger. Does that have to go a certain way back inside?
  14. Yeah you guys were right. For some reason the hammer plunger has bound up and its not moving freely so its not moving the cylinder latch.
  15. Edit: fixed! After tinkering with the hammer plunger I found i didn't have the notch on the plunger where is was supposed to be aligned with the cross pin. Hours of frustration for a tiny cross pin lol. Ah well part of the learning process. Thank for all your suggestions and help fellas! On to the next lesson lol. I installed a new hammer on my ruger and all parts went back in fine. Only issue is now randomly the transfer bar won't go up and I can't cock the hammer. Its not hanging on the firing pin, I looked. The base pin is also seated well. Any ideas whats happening? Edit: ok narrowed it down to the hammer plunger and spring. Which explains why i can cock and decock fine with no cylinder. The cylinder latch goes down when i open the loading gate btw just not otherwise. The hammer plunger is not moving freely in the hammer and works sometimes and stick other times. I swapped parts back into the factory hammer and its doing it in that hammer as well now. How should that plunger and spring be installed? Push the plunger until it stops, there's a notch, does that have to go a certain way? There's 0 youtube videos I've found on this particular issue. Thanks fellas.
