I'd look for a new cover with more vents. Mine vented here on both sides and never had a deterioration or mildew problem. There are newer covers that use sections of breathable fabric similar to Frogg Toggs that might be worth a look. Would hate to see it happen to you again.

@Chief Rick was it a vented cover that was pulled tight so it formed an airgap between the cover and seat? We have a problem with animals making a nest out of the seat foam.
