Top Lady was Kid Sticks and Top Gun Winner was Lucky Smucky These are excerpts from an album on my FaceBook site Cowboy Action Shooting Gallery But since a lot of folks don't have a FB account I posted a few of them here. Just a bit of SASS history.
  2. A lot of good information. I had forgotten about this site. Bookmarked it, Thanks
  3. Westworld this past season where the girl fires the 7-1/2" barreled SAA like a double-action, repeatedly. Or, when a revolver is fired and you can hear empty cases hitting the ground. Or, "The Strain" where the old man fires his J-Frame 11 times! It used to bug me that they couldn't get simple things right, but now it entertains me, turning a schmaltzy TV drama into a comedy as I laugh and try to catch all the errors. What the heck, fun is where you find it!
  4. Wow, you got a long trip! I only have a 2-1/2 hr drive to get mine! Piedmont Triad International Airport North Carolina Address: 1000 Ted Johnson Pkwy, Greensboro, NC 27409, United States Code: GSO Elevation: 282 m Phone: +1-678-809-5519, Hours: 6:00 am – 10:00 pm Hi I am Eric Leonard, Head of inspection unit, United Nations Inspection Agency, Piedmont Triad International Airport NC, USA During our investigation, I discovered an abandoned shipment through a Diplomat from United Kingdom which was transferred from Northwest Florida Beaches Airport to our facility here in North Carolina. When scanned it revealed an undisclosed sum of money in 2 metal trunk boxes weighing approximately 65kg each. The consignment was abandoned because the content was not properly declared by the consignee as money rather it was declared as personal effect/classified document to either avoid diversion by the Shipping Agent or confiscation by the relevant authorities. The diplomat’s inability to pay for non-inspection fees among other things are the reason why the consignment is delayed and abandoned. Fortunately, my assessment revealed that each of the boxes contains about $4M or more. They are still left in the airport storage facility till today. The Consignments like I said are two metal trunk boxes weighing about 65kg each (Internal dimension: W61 x H156 x D73 (cm) effective capacity: 680 L) Approximately. The details of the consignment including your email on the official document from United Nations’ office in London where the shipment was tagged as personal effects/classified document is still available with us. As it stands now, you have to reconfirm your full name, Phone Number, full address so I can cross-check and see if it corresponds with the one on the official documents. It is now left to you to decide if you still need the consignment or allow us repatriate it back to UK (place of origin) as we were instructed. Like I did say again, the shipper abandoned it and ran away most importantly because he gave a false declaration, he could not pay for the yellow tag, he could not secure a valid non inspection document(s), etc. I am ready to assist you in any way I can for you to get back this packages provided you will also give me something out of it (financial gratification). You can either come in person, or you engage the services of a secure shipping/delivery Company/agent that will provide the necessary security that is required to deliver the package to your doorstep or the destination of your choice as you personally will bear the charges, I need the entire guarantee that I can get from you before I can get involved in this project. Remember to re-send your full name, contact address and your private telephone number. Looking forward to your soonest response. Regards, Mr. Eric Leonard United Nations Inspection Agency Piedmont Triad International Airport NC Text or call for immediate procedure: Phone: +1-678-809-5519
  5. Look on the left side of the gun frame. The older model Vaquero simply says "Ruger Vaquero". The smaller, newer framed model says "Ruger New Vaquero".
  6. Secession: there is nothing new in this. Folks in Alaska have been trying to do this since the 1990's, CA since about 2010, FL since about 2014, GA 2009, HI, NH since 2001, Oregon since last year, SC since 2010, TX since forever, VT since 2003... there are regional secession movement, county secession movements, cities that want to secede from states...on and on... As long as there are people there will be other people that want nothing to do with them. Disagreement, even violent disagreements are as old as Cain and Able. How many of us have wanted at one time or another to secede from our own families?
  7. Welcome!! Please go visit a match first. Introduce yourselves to the friendly folks there. You'll have to fend off folks trying to give you information and offering you insights into the different guns and equipment. Handle the different rifles and shotguns before you go buying. The BFR has a 5-chamber cylinder. I don't remember it having a firing pin rest between chambers. Therefore, since we require you to start with the hammer down on an empty chamber, you'd only be able to load 4. Which means you'd have to load one "on the clock" every stage. This might cause you and your wife some frustration as you progress. I don't know where you are, but if you're anywhere in the Carolinas, you're not far from a match!
  8. Changing the cylinder on the clock is do-able, keeping the barrel downrange... but you'd have to cap the cylinder on the clock. If you don't care about time and just want to do it for fun. Cool. Watch where your front hand goes when firing, keep it back to your shooting hand. The blast from the cylinder gap will sear your arm... plus if you do happen to have a chain fire... well, that could leave a mark.
  9. Sounds like my experience with Remington "1858"s. That fun moment while the palm of your hand is being branded and you pause in your shooting string long enough to maintain your coolth before pressing on!
  10. Before I knew any better, I used to pinch caps to keep them from coming off of stock nipples during recoil. Then years ago I discovered correct replacement nipples and proper fitting caps. Haven't pinched caps in the last decade or so... I don't see why anyone would want to load percussion caps on their cylinders off the gun. It's a pretty simple affair to stick them on properly at the loading table. I use my fingers instead of a capper, (personal preference), and if they need seating, seat them with the eraser of my trusty number 2 unsharpened pencil.
  11. When buying commercially reloaded ammo, there are 2 prices. 1st price is when you buy the initial order... figure 31.99 a box of 50... then there is the 2nd, less expensive price when you send them back the brass and have them reload it...16.00 for that same box of 50 So, you're reloaded ammo gets cheaper after the initial purchase. 12. well new to me... "In A Valley of Violence" (2016) It hits just about every western cliche, but Ethan Hawke and John Travolta look like that had fun doin' it, just chewin' up the screen. It has the feel of a Spaghetti Western. Interesting assortment of guns, just a few Colt Peacemakers, not a single '92 or '94 in sight! Good to see that we've had a long string of Westerns the past couple of years. Keep 'em comin'! https://youtu.be/nFD4f1_eZno https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/in_a_valley_of_violence/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3608930/
  13. I'm probably going to sell the .45 I bought from the Custom Shop 7-1/2" BPF with beveled cylinder. I bought a pair of .38-40 from them and I'm going to stick with those. They do darned good work, you just need patience.
  14. Yep, he said he talked to the Custom Shop and they got them out a little faster than the usual 2 years. He also got a price break from Eagle Grips and El Paso Saddlery. Seems like us "normal" folks would have to do the full wait, and pay full price for our grips and holsters. Oh well.
  15. That's how I load HBWC to shoot in my .36 cal percussion pistols. Makes for a highly accurate BP round.
  16. Same to you my friend! Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy New Year! ~Duc~
  17. Congrats on your cap guns! I have a few myself. The Piettas are just the ticket if you're going with extra cylinders. They won't break the bank and they're readily available. With all my Italian percussion pistols I broke them down and stoned the slots for the hand and the bolt. Uberti, Pietta, Ami San Paolo, Armi San Marco, they all had burrs and roughness in the slots. Check to see if the sides of the hammer rub against the frame as it falls. You night have to relieve a bit there too. When buying extra cylinders, try to stay with new ones, or ask the seller if they are the newer-wider slot cylinders or not. The older guns had a narrower bolt and a corresponding narrower slot for the bolt stop. Good shootin' and Merry Christmas!
  18. You have to send the guns to them: ATF&E Firearms and Ammunition Technology Division (FATD) for a formal classification. FATD 244 Needy Rd., Martinsburg, WV 25404 Our Division does not make determinations based on drawings, photographs, written descriptions, or diagrams. In order to render an appropriate classification, please ship the physical item and any supporting information to the address above. Please ship your item to FATD with a prepaid return shipping label with tracking for the return of your item (providing shipping account numbers, instead of providing a trackable prepaid shipping label, will not be accepted). https://www.atf.gov/firearms/curios-relics
  19. Readers’ Choice: Ruger’s Vaquero Best Cowboy Action Rifle Uberti’s 1873 Winchester This must have been heavily influenced by advertisers. The Vaquero and 1873 are the only place I could agree with them... and I own Smokewagons and an 1887. ('87 the best CAS shotgun and Readers Choice an '87 ?? There's a few folks that run it really well... but it's not the overwhelming choice of all shooters)
  20. When I flew to EoT I shipped my ammo ahead via UPS. Like has been posted here, Hub, ORM-D, Adult Signature. It was .45 Colt ammo and Shotshells. That much weight, the cost at the time was about $25.00 I don't know what the rates are now, I know from the stuff I've sold on the Classified Wire that shipping fees have gone up.
  21. The only advantage to going shorter is if that's what you use for your pistols and you just want to load one one case size, one bullet size for everything. This way if you load Schofields for you pistol, you can load Schofields for your rifle too, etc.
  22. Ah yeas... like Pat Riot said... you might want to go with '92 Rifles instead of a Carbine... reloading on the clock each stage gets to be a pain. I watched a pard do that with his Winchester '94 carbine. Most stages will require 10 rounds in the rifle. Very few 9 round stages and I've only seen one 8 round stage. Personally, I like the front weight of Rifle better, less movement when placing follow-up shots on the same target, and not too heavy to swing easily to other targets. Just personal opinion... all my rifles are octagonal barrel 20"
  23. Howdy, welcome to the fire! You'll be getting lots of advice here, and the answers may go on for a couple of pages. I'm just going to stick to your questions. First, between the '92 and the Thunderbolt... hands down the '92 will give you a better outcome. I've HAD a Thunderbolt, don't have it anymore. Was never able to get it to run reliably, and the customer service was awful. I started with a '92, sold it some years later. Finally tracked one down just like it again. It's a strong rifle, can be used for other purposes than CAS. You can fire heavy loads in it and it is a very accurate rifle. You should have it worked over by a Cowboy Gunsmith, or if you're reasonably handy, order the CD and parts from Steve's Gunz and do the action job yourself. Since you are going for price point, this might be the best option in a rifle that can be found in that price range. You might want to rethink shooting .45 unless you reload. Without reloading, boxes of .45colt are going to be fairly expensive, at more than two boxes per match, plus practice .38's would be less expensive to buy. I'd recommend getting into reloading fairly soon. For the pistols, you might want to look at the Taylor's Cattleman, in either regular or Gunfighter grips. You really need to handle some guns and see if the regular "plow handle" is for you or if you want the longer "Army" grip. The Cimarron Firearms MP400 and MP411 4-3/4 and 5-1/2" are the same guns. All are at a similar price point to the Traditions pieces, but with better fit and finish. Surprisingly I bought some Cimarron Pre-War type revolvers at EoT back in 2003, and they did not need an action job or lighter springs. Yep, I was surprised, because just about every CAS firearm I own has had action work done on it. No promises, you may not get the same results from ones you buy. You'll get a lot of advice here... I tried to stay with your posted questions. Welcome, and get out to a match and handle some guns. Merry Christmas! ~Duc~
  24. I've got several rifles, '66 and '73s, but I'm holding on to my pre-safety half-round, half octagon Rossi '92 in .45colt, and a Winchester '92 in 38WCF. They are good shooters and as accurate as you could want. I shoot them with heavier loads and at longer distances than CAS, but they still make for a decent match gun. Have fun with that '92!
